Titling/Registering a Bike in GA
« on: September 10, 2013, 10:28:16 AM »
Has anyone gone through the process of titling/registering these old bikes with only a bill of sale here in GA?

Ive heard different things from different people, ranging from only bill of sale to a bunch of different forms signed by cops. I've also heard about a 'non-titled vehicle' way of registering but cant seem to find any info on it.

Any light you could shed would be appreciated, I'd prefer to have all these forms in order before standing in line for 3 hours...

All it took for me to get my 1975 Honda CB750 tagged was a hand written bill of sales on a piece of notebook paper.

Took that and proof of insurance, stood in line for 37 minutes, ......bam......got a tag.
If it ain't raining, I'm riding.....~~{iii}?~~prost

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

Thanks budlite.

I just jumped through all the hoops this morning - figured I should share for anyone else who's interested:

These bikes can be registered as a non-titled vehicle in GA, so all you need to prove the bike is yours is a bill of sale. In addition to that you need:

- T-22B Form: Verifies that the VIN on your bike is the VIN you claim it to be. Has to be filled out by a cop.

- Insurance Binder: This is more than just your insurance card. It has all your account information (address, deductibles, claims, etc.) and the Tag Office wouldnt register the bike until I had one of these. Called Geico and they emailed it to me no problem. Another thing to note here - the effective start date of your insurance has to be either the current date or in the past otherwise, no tag.

It took some prodding to get them to create a brand new registration entry in their system for the bike. They were determined, since I bought the bike in GA, to find the previous registration records and wanted to verify that these records matched up with the seller. Which wouldnt have been the case for me.

I think the trick is to tell them that you bought the bike out of state with only a bill of sale and that you want to register it for the first time here in GA. This would hopefully deter them from searching the GA database for the bikes previous registration and force them to create a new entry.

If they find a previous registration in GA, apparently you to pay all of the years that it hasnt been current - ouch...
