We also have several reservoirs around here that have problems with Northern Pike taking over and anglers are encouraged to keep them but I have always let them go but I think that will change this year.

We call them "Lake Snakes" around here. Slimy suckers with good fight to them.... not the best eating... IMO. Prefer walleye to eat.... but fry pike up with some Cajun shore lunch and it all eats the same.

Right now I'm thinking about beginning my hunting career by taking out this damn red squirrel that has now cost me hundreds in cushions and covers for my deck furniture. Little SOB chews up the cushions in the summer and steals the padding from inside and he's gone through two covers. DOW says I can kill it for destruction of property. I just gotta figure out how I'm going to do it now. Need to find out if I can legally do it with a pellet gun within city limits and, if not, figure out what my other options are. Both dogs go after it whenever they're out there but I'm always fearful one of them will get bit.

Oddly enough I worked in medical/tech for a couple years and am very familiar with C.diff and its growing drug resistance.  It is a very resilient little guy.  It is really REALLY important to finish your course of antibiotics whenever you are prescribed them, it doenst matter if you are feeling better, think you are over it etc, TAKE ALL YOUR PILLS.  Years of over prescribed and misused broad spectrum antibiotics have left us with some pretty nasty super bugs.  The good news is a lot of the "old classic" antibiotics that used to be effective in the past but are no longer used are starting to be effective again because the pathogens have grown and evolved to fight the newer medications but are unfamiliar with "the basics" essentially.

Just make sure you are working with good doctors with up to date info because it is a really fast moving topic in the medical field and people are doing studies and making breakthroughs all the time!

sending you positive vibes!

Sorry Blac, but unless the "infection/virus" is life threatening then just let your body get rid of it, I've never finished a full course of antibiotics unless it was drip fed to me in hospital.  My son has NEVER had antibiotics, My daughter had half a box when she had a knee reconstruction both in their mid 20's and fighting fit, they rarely ever get sick and have strong immune systems, there are far too many antibiotics prescribed these days, as well as your food {meat} being full of them, its no wonder everyone is getting sicker, allergies are on the rise and superbugs are becoming harder to fight, even with break through's in newer drugs, {I've seen some horrific golden staph infections post surgery}.  River, get yourself a new doctor mate, mine HATES prescribing antibiotics, unusual considering all the incentives they are given to sell more, or prescribe more drugs,  I hate taking any medications, I'm a transplant patient and have to take the immunosuppression meds {luckily only one type} for obvious reasons, but if I didn't have to, I certainly wouldn't take anything... We cook all our food fresh, nothing canned or processed, I love  fishing too, so plenty of fresh fish {Filleting is easy, use a very sharp, flexible knife  ;)} ,  we have farmers markets locally where most of the produce is grown without pesticides, this is all we eat, it helps you stay healthy, none of us are over weight, I'm 17 years post transplant and have not been sick once {from a bug or virus}, I'm highly susceptible to everything being immunosuppressed, all I have to worry about is sun cancers, until they have a cure for that, i'll keep getting them cut out... {without antibiotics}... ;D ;)  By the way, I'm not an anti medication, tinfoil hat fruit loop, conspiracy theorist, drugs are overprescribed, I just think that our immune system is there to deal with these problems and make us stronger, drugs completely inhibit this process most of the time, I do however condone their use if its absolutely necessary....

Today I decided to test fit the electrical panel that Cal made just to make sure there weren't going to be any strange fitment issues between the frame he used to make it and mine. Him and his son did a really nice job making it. RR is mounted on the backside of the panel and it's oriented so that the wires point right down to where they will meet up with the wires and connector from the stator. I'll get nice stainless fasteners tomorrow.

I agree the use of antibiotics should be avoided and broad spectrum antibiotics are overly prescribed by lazy doctors, but when you are given a course of them you HAVE to take them all.  My point is not "take as many medications as you can", I'm saying "when you are given antibiotics, do what the doctor tells you and finish the entire course regardless if you feel better halfway through".

That is exactly how drug resistance is created.

Methicillin was used for a long time to treat staphylococcus aureus, but the over prescription and lack of proper use gave us MRSA... which is no fun for anyone.

Anyway back to motorcycles which are more fun  :P

Set a trap for it, you know it likes your padding for its nest. :(  Might want to put some shelled nuts to lure it in.
Dried fruit might work too but, you run the risk if catching other rodents.  A skunk being the most problematic to deal with after trapping it.
Apartment complex in Dayton when I lived there one winter was attempting to catch racoons that decided the atiac was a good winter home. They caught a skunk in the trap they set.  I stepped out in the pre-dawn snowy morning onto the walk to see the trap had a skunk about 8 ft away.  I quickly stepped back into the small covered porch and called the apartment complex to tell them to have their trapper take care of it pronto.  Noticing there was vomit I had stepped over when stepping tonto the walk.  Apparently the skunk had spray a neighbor or at a neighbor and they threw up gagging from the smell.  Mentioned that in my message and expressed displeasure we were not given any headsup about the trap. It was set after I had gotten home the previous night.

Once you have it trapped, then you can teach it to swim or release it where you go fishing.  But, this time of year you ought to just kill and eat it, it wouldn't survive a relocation in January without a shelter and it won't use a man made shelter.
If you don't want the squirrel for dinner, tastes a bit like a gamey chicken. Contact the local sporting goods /gun shop and someone would take it off your hands.

We got a new name for Stev-o,  Daryl.
Find someone who shoots archery or hunts with bow, they are likely to have multiple bows and or friends with excess equipment.  They can sell you a full setup in nice shape and you then get a set of arrows to fit your draw

Heather got home tonight from work and I told her about the squirrel. Dogs chased it off the deck and into a tree that sits right outside the main room (where the tv is) of our house. In a branch that allowed him to just sit and watch me. Little bastard sat there barking and twitching his tail at me for 35 minutes. 8 feet from the window. I could have opened the window, popped the screen and maybe hit it with a slingshot. I've mentioned it before, and did so again tonight, that I was gonna kill that thing and then eat it. She called me a hobo and told me I was not eating it. I told I was for sure going to eat it if I killed it. And possibly just cook it on a stick over a fire in our fire place. She just shook her head and walked away. Then I yelled up the stairs that I was also going to tan the hide and make something out of it. She didn't respond.

Wonder if I could hit that sucker with bearing out of slingshot?

Ooooohhh. OR....maybe I could Duct tape a fat rat trap to the decking right next to the furniture with some peanut butter on it and trap it? Only problem with that is that I wouldn't be able to eat it unless I knew how long it had been sitting there. Of course in winter maybe it would keep? I'd kinda like to eat this thing.

I wonder what people think of this hot mess of a build thread? It ranges from working on an old motorcycle to talking about hunting, polishing aluminum, people talking about how friggin' cool I am, antibiotics, people making fun of Cal, prison arms, fur coats and fashion, people making fun of Cal, polishing more aluminum, bad body work, why I can't use old lamp chords for wiring, fishing, and introductions to big game hunting via squirrel plinking.

Blow dart gun!

A blow gun would actually be very cool but I worry that I'd be more accurate with a slingshot. With a big old bearing do you think it would matter where I hit that thing at? I mean...other than the tail. I would imagine if I hit main body...that sucker's gonna drop. I don't wanna buy cushions and a cover every year but I'm not down with it suffering.

Hmmmm. No. I do not wish to hear those words come from her mouth. Although she does not readily admit it, I have successfully trapped two Pocket Gophers in our yard and she was very appreciative because those things could wreak havoc on our nice landscaping. Blow gun darts couldn't possibly break a window. Wouldn't think. What I'm more worried about with that is inhaling a dart and then hearing about that. This is not going to be easy.

If you fet one of those arm braced sling shots with the heavy surgical tubing for bands you can use it to hunt.  Some people do. They can kill and maim. Likely to break a bone or two if you hit it in the body and kill shots in everything from mid-rib cage through head if perpendicular strike.  1/4 inch bearings/shot are plenty big for a slingshot.  Likely not legal for pellet gun in city limits.  Just don't inhale on the blowgun, especially using poison darts...
Feed the sucker puffer fish.

Good point David. Squirrels can't be very robust. I wish there was a better way. I've tried strips of pie pans and old CD's but that just looks weird. I'm at the point where I'm ready to get serious. Wonder what it would cost to have it mounted for above the mantle?

I think it best to just tan the pelt  and  mount the dried tail on your bike's handlebars or your car's antenna.  Having it mounted is likely to cost you $200 Or more.

Get a cat?
Apparently my daughter's Badass Black Cat [as we call him] doesn't like squirrels, either. Or birds!
I found "Charlie" dead last week, and wasnt real happy about it.  Charlie used to "talk" to me when I would get too close to him, no more!

Can't stand cats and it would need to be outside to do the job and there's too many fox, bobcats, and coyotes up here to leave a cat out (or a dog). Neighbors do it all the time and then plaster signs all over the neighborhood because their cat is "missing."  ::)

Can't stand cats

Same here. I don't understand the desire to have an animal that is constantly scheming to kill you and/or eat you if you keel over and die.

I'll stick to pups....

True, cats will eat you after you die...
they like their protein in any form it comes...

In Tucson people would be walking their little ankle biters in the evenings before dark or after dark and the coyotes would come across the berm from which they were watching and take them leash and all...  Little old ladies and even young people made the mistake plenty of times...
Then they would whine about the dinner on a string being pulled away by a predator...and expect the apartment complex or city to be able to do something about it.

Well I was down in the garage getting started on the wiring when my wife came down and said, "I want you to kill the squirrel." Actually she used much more colorful language. Turns out when she went out to cook chicken on the grill, she busted it chewing on the side of the house and on the brand new Trex decking. So I picked up some rat traps when I had to run to the hardware store for some Loctite. We'll see what we get tomorrow.

Ok...without further delay...today I finally dove into the wiring. I must say I have a whole new found respect for bikes and cars with very tidy wiring. It's tedious and difficult. I started with the left hand M-Button and it took me a few times to figure out how tight to tighten those tiny little screws under the buttons, how to orient the buttons correctly in the housing, and how to make everything look nice. Here's the left side after I was done with it.

Here's the inside of the right side M-Button.

The right side went infinitely smoother.

And I stopped after just bringing all these wires down the backbone and securing them.
