Stopped by the all Jap and Triumph shop to leave my monthly tithe at the parts counter for my 550 project, and what is sitting there but an orange and white 2005 t100 leftover. Blowout price was $6995. Haven't been so taken by a new bike in a long time.

As usual we get raped on the prices in Canada   >:(  What is 7K in the US is 10,500 here when it really should be more like low 8s.

The exchange used to be 1.5 and now it's closer to 1.15 (I don't keep right up on it) but NO bike part I try to buy has gone down in price. They still charge us 1.5 times the US price.

If I could get a new scrambler for 8K Canadian I woulkd probably have a REAL hard time not buying one.

Now.
Seeing that it looks like dreams from too much Wakky Bakky I would say that my ideal new bike Was the Yamaha XJ 900S Diversion.
I have ridden one and its almost as good as a worn BMW 1200RS!
Its a simple good all round beast which is half comfortable (must) and is good on fuel with reliability The Road King I rode in NC was sooo comfortable.

StevieMac, could you buy a Scrambler in the US then import it to Canada? Would that save you any money?

Hands down the new Dreer Norton. Anybody got 20 grand I can HAVE? P.S. Hey Proteal, why you gotta lower everything. I'm afraid of dragging my spear and magic helmet on the tarmac. Maybe it's not that BIG of a problem for you. :D

Last I heard the new Norton was caput. Lost an investor, or needed more capital and couldn't get it, or something like that. It's a shame too, because that bike was breathtaking.

Hey, that would be a choice I'd like to make also

And Jeff,  I wouldn't count the new Norton out just yet, they're still working on bringing things together and coming up with a new location. Here's hoping they can pull it off, they've got a hell of a product there.

Definitely gotta say that there is nothing wrong with the Vincents at all!!
There are several that I'd like to have in my possesion but, money keeps me from it & I
could fill up this post with them and bore everyone to death in the process. Let's just say
that there have been some magnificent machines developed over the years and I'd have to
have at least one HUGE warehouse to keep them all in. I'd also have to have help keeping
them all in shape. Let's face it, like most all of you, I Love Motorcycles!!!!

Kwasaki W650 is the bike Bonneville that Triumph should have made.  You can get a realatively low mileage one for under $4K and spend the rest on mods like an aluminum tank and stuff.  Someone is also making a "scrambler" kit with high pipes.  The W is so far superior to the Triumph it almost unbelievable. Here's a picture of mine;

Jeff, I have a Motorcycle Consumer News that compared the W with a new Bonnie and a '67 (I think it was), and the W came out on top on almost all catagories.  Motorcyclist raved about it.  Cycle World was only so-so, but they seem to love Triumphs in general.  Anyway, I'm about to go to bed and get up to do the tourist thing with a friend from San Francisco (a riding fool- 12K just to get here and he's taking 10 days to get back)- going to Deals Gap. Lord help me.  Oh well.  Anyway, I'm a;ready punch drunk and wandering here...  The ride of the W is just better. It doesn't sound and feel like a sewing machine.  I put an extra tooth in up front and it still has tons of gitty-up, the pipes sound better. It has desmo drive which is just cool.  Shoot. I'm falling asleep... I'll PM what Consumer News said

I already have my new(er) bike, the Norton. Unfortunately it's old(er) and is sitting sulking in the garage under a cover, awaiting time and effort, and of course money, to be spent on putting it back on the road.

I would make it new(er) by throwing money at it in the form of a belt primary drive, updated front brake, working turn signals, etc, etc, etc.

If I won the lottery tonight then I would be looking for something from the Hinkley Triumph range. Not sure what. Maybe a Rocket III, just for bragging rights around all those V-twin cruiser riders.

Jeff

I had a TL1000R so pretty similar to the RC51 I.e. 1000cc Japanese V-Twin sport bike.  Nice, nice bike but for me just too good to enjoy really.  By the time you're having fun you're going WAY too fast IMO.  I prefer something I can flog a bit and still be going a reasonable speed.  I just saw my TL is back up for sale on CraigsList.  The guy who bought it only put 3500 km on it in 2 years (2200 miles).

Importing bikes older than 15 years is no problem at all.  New ones are a bigger deal but I don't know all the details.  My impression has been it's not worth it.
