74 550 Turn Signal Mystery
« on: August 21, 2006, 09:32:19 AM »
I have had problems with my turn signals working or working slowly during cold weather, so after cleaning everything up, I now have much better working blinkers, however, when the lights are on, the left works fine, but the right doesn't flash, or occasionally flashes slowly, but with the headlight off, they both work fine. Does anyone have thoughts on what else to check. It does have the audible flasher as well. ThanksĀ  Jay

Are all the bulbs the same wattage?
On my bike the battery isn't great anymore, and when idling the right turn signal works fine, the left just stays on and doesn't flash.  When going down the highway both sides flash but the left is slower.  I believe because I have the wrong size bulb in one of the lights, and of course because the battery has insufficient voltage.

My guess is a low battery. Try taking it for a long higway drive and see if it still doesn't flash.

Cold weather is hard on small batteries (like in a flashlight) too, so maybe this goes for bike batteries as well.
