Just got a 78 Cb550
« on: August 23, 2006, 02:12:22 PM »
Hello All,
I just got a beat up 78 CB550 for $250.  It wasn't running when I got it, but I just had to change the plugs and charge the battery.  I am really excited about the bike, and this looks like an awesome forum.  I have so many questions, and already I have found a bunch of the answers here.

Got my 78 550K for the same price plus the PO through in a 77 parts bike for good measure.  I had it running the first week and plated the next.  I have been enjoying it ever since.

Welcome to the Forum.

I'm really jealous of reading about these great deals you guys keep getting. Here in Canada $250 will just about get you a pos which will require a ground up restoration, and that's about all. IF you can find a bike for that cheap!

I can't even get half a bike for that kind off money here in Europe. I suppose they have more off them around in the US.

Happy riding Billstron. I have a 76 550F myself.

Silver Sophie cost me $2000, in May, and that was a not-unreasonable price for hereabouts. What I got was a 'runner' with everything original, except for the front brake master cylinder/reservoir. As I have noted before she was good to go, and carried me 200 miles home over the mountains.

Of course, since then she has cost me $$ for chain/sprockets/rear tyre/Scottoiler (yeah, my choice, I know!)/air cut-off valves in the carbs....plus the replacement (proper) front brake stuff and carb rebuild kit waiting to be dealt with.

Japanese bikes that run seem to bottom out at about $1500 here, regardless of motor size or model. To find anything cheaper, as I mentioned before, you are looking at a non-runner which will require lots of $$. Or you have to be really lucky!
