Barnett clutch problems

Anyone have any experience installing the Barnett clutch for the 750 sohc? The clutch fitted in great, no problems there, but when I started to fit the motor cover i noticed that the motor cover would not go on properly.  There was a couple of millimeters gap between the cover and the motor case. Popped the cover on the mill and machined down the webs just a tad in the inside. The cover now goes on but the actuator is pressing on the clutch. Hence there is no free play on the actuator.  Anyone have this problem before?

How many plates?         K or F2 model?       Check your pressure-plate alignment.........the 4-arms have stepped inner surfaces and need to be flush.............My trick is to use 2 longer cap-bolts to get the pressure plate started, then proceed with stock screws on 2 opposite arms, replace the longer screws, and turn each down no more than one turn at a time to keep the pressure somewhat even.

Which 750 sohc? There were changes along the way that will affect how you put it together. 
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Hi, the motor number is CB750E-2544248. hope this helps.
It went together great. The cover just does not fit.  :(

That number looks like a 1976 CB750F1. If so it has the shorter basket prior to the upgrade used in the 77 and 78 which used a double metal plate from the early Gold Wing in the middle of the clutch pack. Sound right?

Does it fit inside like this?

 

Earlier basket on left and 77/78 on right. Either will fit but the 77/78 uses a modified cover that has the inside 'ribs' ground down/shorter/not protruding as much.

Previous clutch pack - note that it's not put together correctly. I'm thinking this is my Barnett. It's not tight and compressed like the first one. The pressure plate is not installed correctly and it needs to be taken off and rotated so the teeth will mesh properly and it will sit flush. How many discs are you using?
