78 CB550k Carb question
« on: October 09, 2013, 04:12:26 PM »
I know I have seen the answer before somewhere and I can't find it again, but on the 78 cb550 carbs there is a nipple beside the gas inlet, what is that for? I think I read it was a vent for the carbs? I have it capped right now and the bike runs fine but want to make sure I have everything hooked up correctly. Thanks in advance!

That should not be capped. It is an air duct for proper filling of the bowls.  Put a piece of hose on it and just tuck it away.

+1 It may seem like it runs OK but if you take it on the open road and keep it above 5k-6krpm then you will see it will not. To get the idea take a bottle of water turn it upside down then take the lid off. Let it try to empty then poke a hole in the bottom and see the difference. This same thing happens if your fuel tank cap vent gets plugged up. ;)
