Topic: Gross brake master piston

After soaking for 2 weeks in evaporust, I was able to remove the circlip from the master cylinder, but it was still so corroded I had to bang out the piston.  The piston was horrible, but the inside bore of the MC is nice and shiny and smooth.

Check DSS for a replacement MC-not much more than a rebuild kit...Larry

Why?  I like this one lol. It's fine now!   Just needs a rebuild.

I've been told that even a rebuilt MC may still not function as well as a new one  I'm sure that 90% of that is based on the quality of the rebuild.

rebuilt my crudded-up 550 MC and it's been problem-free for 2 years.  the only reason it would be "less functional" is if the bore was in bad shape/scratched up.  they aren't very complicated machines.

Yeah, that's why I added that last bit there. YMMV, as always. I used a rebuilt one, because I am a cheap ass.

Buying rebuilt MC's is usually where you have the trouble. You don't know how well they were cleaned, checked for functionality and what went in the thing.

Sometimes return ports aren't cleaned and it won't release properly, other times the reubilder is just a clown
