... because i found this little gem on the side of the road. 78 Kz200. all original. 6k miles. been sitting for at least 15 years. big spraypainted plywood sign (very homemade looking, made out of an odd shaped piece of plywood thats been under a tree for decades) saying $100. whos gonna pass that up?! so i swing in and give it a good look over.. the motor is stuck, its missing the battery, grab bar, right mirror, and carb-airbox boot. other than that its all there. so then i begin my offers, i never pay asking price 50$? "no, firm on $100".... hmm ok  howbout' 75$ or 80$ if you can deliver it to my house ( i have no truck and this guy has several throughout his yard...)
 
so long story short i just had a new bike delivered to my door for $80 ive already freed the motor. i solved the spark issue that it was originally parked for ( bad plug cap). i later discovered a leaky fork seal, slightly bent bars, and the signal lights are not working... BUT WHO CARES?! 80$ and ive had fun fixing it in the past few hours.

so anywho, im posting here hoping someone may have a manual in PDF for this little guy. im a bit of a novice when it comes to fork seals and id like to have something to go by. points gap would be handy too. anyone?

I worked on all Japanese bikes back then and remember that .012 to  .016 will get you in the ballpark with most any model and any brand.  Nice little bike...Larry

Supposedly the guy has it and needs to dig it out of a pile of paperwork. I'm not too concerned as you dont need on in nh to register it. Just bill of sale.

K i need some help with this one. Got the bike somewhat running in the garage for about 20 seconds and i hear and feel a bad vibration and noise and it dies. Still turns over fine and gets spark. Oil is pooled on top of the valves, blueish smoke coming from airbox everything it turns over.My first thought was that the points plate may have shifted and thrown off the timing. I had just set it before this and when i checked it after it was off by a little. It still has compression but i dont have a tester to see what its at.  Rings? Piston? The fact thaf it has compression is throwing me for a loop. Thanks in advance

thought id bring back this thread as it is bike season again here in NH When i last was working on this bike i found out the issue i was having in the previous thead...... a, what appears to be, drill bit got sucked in through the intake somehow and made its was into the cylinder taking out the valves on its way in and out. did some pretty hefty damage to the top of the piston but the cylinder wall looks like it made it out without a scratch.

 if this were my honda id say "aw shucks... ok let me go to my endless pile of spare parts and fix it" ... unfortunetly parts for this thing (particularly top end parts) are hard to come across. over the winter i missed out on a complete head on Ebay for 125$. since then nothing has even shown up. pistons show up from time to time but not really cheap. i paid very little for this bike so im not real upset with putting some money into it.

can you get veldet the holes in head..and machined. it back to new  .then it can be reused...valve and seats ,,,are they all broke?

I wonder if the PO was attempting to bench synch the carbs on the bike with a drill bit, but it slipped in, then forgot about it?

i was thinking something along those lines.. i know ive used a small drill bit in the past to push the float pins out of my cb750. im sure something like that was done and forgotten about, afterall the bike hassnt ran in 15 years.

im assuming the valves are bent. compression was lost and the rings didnt seem to be effected

You might look at other Kawasaki twin bikes in the 400cc range. They may use interchangeable parts and thus you can locate pistons, rings, valves etc... Attempting to limit your searches to KZ200 only models may prove costly.

I don't see much hope for the carb synch theory to explain the wayward drill bit.

I have one of these, great little bike!

It may have been me that bought that complete head a while back, I had seized my camshaft in the head due to lack of oil. I still have the old head and while the camshaft and actual head are not usable the valves might still be. I'll look it over when I get a change and send you a PM.
