Front Axle Removal
« on: October 22, 2013, 01:55:51 pm »
I need to get this left  Front Rotor off a 1978 Supersport but the Speedo housing is blocking its removal Do I need to drive the axle all the way out ? And if so remove the bearing retainers   on the right side? Or can I just drive it from right to left with the speedo housing still there
Little help please
Thanks

take the axle out and the speedo drive will come with it.
then, you take off the rotor.
the bearings/ retainer will stay in the hub

Piece of 2x4 and a hammer on the opposite side an pound it through ? The back came off no problem but the front is locked in there
I thought I might be doing something wrong

pull off the spacer, and push it through.

Is the "spacer" the front wheel collar?

It goes: nut -spacer- hub stuff includinig the internal collar stays- speedo drive -comes off with axle.

Tho once you get this apart, clean that axle well and lightly grease it so it doesn't become corroded again. It should slide out easily once the nut is removed.

In the second picture you can see I have the nut off and the spacer is the tube that's around the axel I'm assuming, going in to the rubber cover
I think it must be corroded on to it it would not budge but still soaking in pb bolt breaker
Some heat tomorrow with a torch an pound it out that way towards the speedo housing

Your pictures aren't appearing  on my computer.

But yes, the spacer should be loose, easy to pull out of the seal (rubber cover) it resides in.

Its that Georgia humidity. Did it spend a lot of time outside? or in a ditch?

Ha yea it might be but surprisingly the rear came right off as in one or two good whacks and I could pull it out by hand of course this is the problem child
