I have been waiting to hear anyone that has used International Title Service (http://www.its-titles.com/), this place would solve a lot of problems if it's that easy.

Anyone here ever use this service?

I live in the smallest county in Texas (and only 30 minutes outside of Dallas!), so dealing with the folks around here is usually pretty easy, and I am as good at schmoozing those middle aged old women as anyone! So maybe I can get this greased through without extra steps.

All they can do is say no I suppose.

I did speak to someone local awhile back that mentioned registering for a title out of Georgia--it was an antique registration specialty house. he said that they are pretty easy to deal with too. If I get more info on that route I will post it here.

I used ITS last year to get a title for a 69 CL350 and I must admit I was hesitant but it did work. I live in Arkansas and I could only get a bonded title which would have been a big pain so I used ITS. Just go their website and print off the forms. Be sure to have the one form notorized as they require. In about two weeks you will get a form from some judge in Alabama stating that they sold you the bike and that Alabama is a non-title state for bikes that are like 20 years old(?).  Take the forms they sent to you to the DMV and you should be able to apply for a title in your state.
Note: My title was issued but where it has the place for the previous title number it says" None". Hope this helps. Cost was $75.

BTW, Wisconon titles motorcycles based on ENGINE number, not frame number as all the other states do. All harleys are titled by engine number in all states, too.

WRONG

We were just issued a clear title BASED ON FRAME NUMBER for Home Wrecker with no revision to old owner or certificate.

Also in AZ you MUST have a title issued by frame number. Otherwise you have junk.

Want to know how?

Well, TWICE I bought Wisconson motorcycles and each had engine # on title, they were from 1969 and 1986. It was a little screwy getting them NY titled which uses frame #. All harleys are titled w/ engine #'s and they are made in Wisconson.

uh no,harleys since around 1969 have been titled by frame number, the part of the frame number is incorporated into the engine number, but the engine number is not the complete number.prior to 1969 harleys were titled by  engine number.

I just know the way we did it worked.

I know in some states the bike MUST be titled by the frame. Engine numbers are worthless. In WI, the only time I have seen them issue on a motor is if it is a home build. Then it must be titled as the current year rather than the original year of manufacture. Also with these the title reverts to prior certificate for frame if there is any.

Wisconsin generally will not issue one motor number because so many of the bikes had come up stolen. As a matter of fact Milwaukee County has a huge warehouse full of stolen bikes still waiting to be claimed. I was told by a State Trooper, that it is quite possible that about 10-15% of the bikes on the nations highways are stolen. :o

Title trouble in Illinois......any advise would help
« Reply #134 on: May 13, 2007, 09:43:54 AM »
I bought a CB550 from a guy in IA in March.  It is my first bike and therefore I have no previous experience buying a bike.  The guy said it had a clear title and everything seemed good to go.  Took the title to the DMV to get the bike registered and they told me that the guy I bought it from did not get the bike titled under his name so I could not get the bike registered or titled under mine.  Called the guy and he said he would take care of it but is dragging his feet.  If he gets the title in his name in IA it will take another month to get the title back to me.  Does anybody know a better option.  I'm at my wits end with this guy but my inexperience is ultimately to blame.

Welcome to the joys of bureaucracy. Been there, done that, didn't end up with the 'bike I thought I had bought. There has to be a paper trail for the appropriate department to be sure that you are not obtaining the 'bike illegally. I doubt that there will be a short cut....you'll just have to keep putting the screws to the PO to do his part of the deal. And if push comes to shove hand the 'bike back and get a refund..

Just trying to understand, you have a title with the PO's name on it, but the the DMV has the owner's name prior to the PO on file as the owner? ???
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

The PO never got the title in his name so the title has the name of the dealership he bought it from.  So, the DMV told me I would be skipping a title holder and that was illegal.

Some of the shady car dealers in Orlando tried that.  Buy cars cheap and then try to "flip" them without changing
the title.

Any chance the dealership is willing to sign it over?
In that case the DMV never needs to know about the
middle man.

I went though this exact same thing with my 550, it had 2 POs that never changed the title in their name! So I was was supposed to find them and get them to make a duplicate title and sign it over to me. Well that was never gonna happen so I just went to the dmv and said I "lost the title". I went the the process to get a bonded title. Although it took a while I finally got it. This was really not that bad since the bike was so old and not in their computers, so I did not have to send letters off to the names on the title. They also pretty much walked me though it, however this is the Arizona dmv so I do not know what things are diffrent between departments.

Google international title service.  You fill out the forms ont heir website (basically a bill of sale and an affadavit saying that bike is not stolen) and they obtain a clear out of state title for you by going through a state that only requires a bill of sale.

Off their website, its listed @ $85.  I have talked to them on the phone and they seem like good people.  I am in almost the same situation as you, as I will be using them next Friday to get a title on my 750.

I used ITS for my 400. They are good folks. It will take a few weeks to get your paperwork. I ended up with a plate from Maine. Read their website VERY CAREFULLY. You WILL NOT end up with a title for your bike. You will end up with it registered in your name from a state that doesn't issue titles on "antique" vehicles. Since you have the bike registered in a state with no title requirement you should then be able to register and title the bike in your state. I haven't yet gone to get my bike titled as I work when the DMV is open and the LA dmv is a complete pain in the arse to deal with anyway.

that's interesting.  I'll go to the DMV this morning and figure out if that will work for me.

Make sure you read up on the rules in your state.  Here in Ohio you are unable to use any of those title agencies.  You have to file for a lost title and go before a magistrate or judge?
