1975 CB 550 4 into 2 or 4 into 1 exhaust options
« on: November 25, 2013, 01:03:02 PM »
Have been researching this.   Seems to be fair amount of discussion about after market exhaust and access to the oil filter or interference with the center stand.   I have heard a few MAC systems and want to keep looking for other options.   Any recommendations on systems that are off the shelf, have a bigger sound and allow oil change without taking off the header pipes?

Thanks

...always preferred the 2 into 1 flair-tip MAC's over the 4 into 1's with a canister.
they look very similar to the old Jardines

Mac's usually have a removable baffle. Have you heard them with and without the baffle? I recently put a Mac on mine cause at the time I wanted a bolt on that would run decent without changing the jets. I don't dig the sound with the baffle, but I haven't tried it without the baffle, yet. I figure if I hate it both ways I'll just chop off the muffler and change it.

MACs are tinny with the baffle, and just deeper tinny without the baffle.

Yeah it sounds pretty awful with the baffle. Like an old Civic with a $15 pep boys muffler.

I have heard MAc's only with baffles and they are not to my liking.   Does anyone know if the Carpy 4 into 1 exhaust allows access to the oil filter?   Any others out there?  I have already decided that I will pay for good paint work so my budget and skill probably means I am looking to buy versus build an exhaust.  Thanks for the feedback so far!   I cant wait to start this build in a few weeks.

The problem with yoshimura replica pipes (motogp and carpy), is that they are incredibly LOUD. Even with a baffle. Even with a custom baffle that baffles more than the supplied baffle.

I have a JAMA system on mine, now Marshall Deeptone.

It's noisy, but not offensive. Sounds like a Jap 4 pot should and around town it's perfectly quiet.

I'd highly recommend it.

Sorry to sound smart here but its easy to make a quieter baffle. . I had a 900 Boldor Honda with a Yoshi on it and yes, it was loud, I made my own baffle at work and it was perfect for the street and sounded great, any pipe can be made quieter , besides, someone on the forum said that Chris was now making a "street" baffle that was quieter....... ;)

thank you all for the input.   Is Marshall out  of business?  I did some searching over the weekend under the names Marshall, Laser and Jama and cannot locate any systems or even a web site.   The Laser exhaust domain name seems to be expired last month?

Any idea where to find this system?

jama engineering b.v., the company that produced marshall etc. seems to have gone bust last year, according to some dutch bankruptcy notes i found on the web.

there seems to be some stock left at some dealers still: http://kglracing.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=23_96_98_906 (no connection to this shop, it's just a random example)
