After riding a good while in summer heat ( 90 degf ) how long is it safe to idle in traffic without overheating? How can you tell if you are hurting the engine?

I have read a case (don't know how true), that someone a long time ago had the same question. So they decided to let their bike idle for a whole day. After that day, everything was still fine. I'm not sure how hot it was that day, & for the life of me i can't find the article. What can i say, Its a Honda.
I still can't find the article, but this thread from 2008 might make for some interesting reading.
