Cb550. Thoughts about these boots and carb set
« on: December 02, 2013, 11:12:34 AM »
Hello all i just want to know what your opinion is in regards to theses intake boots.

Im aware that they arent stock. However theyre atleast made in japan (if thats a good thing). My boots have rips and id like to replace em than to seal the cuts

Here is the carb set which has everything.

Please note that it states 71-73 cb500. However, iirc, it should be the same as my '74 cb550

Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

Well im not too sure but ill rather replace what is needed. Also, i'd prefer having all the stuff i need on hand than waiting for parts to put it back together.

The brass pieces are generally re-usable. I bought the kit and wouldn't suggest it.  The needles are not the same as stock, the jets aren't the right sizes. The o-rings for the float bowls aren't easy to place on as they are the incorrect shape (right size though). From the kit, I only used the rubber and paper gasket, some of the orings. I cleaned and re used all of the brass parts.

Those carb boots look cool. Would like to hear others experiences with them as well.

That seller has a 550 kit too.  The 550 and 500 have different needle taper according to documentation I'm looking at.

That is pretty standard for cb500/550 bowl gaskets, in fact, OEM honda gaskets are the same way.  They are not preformed.  If you want preformed you will have to get them separately at siriusconinc.

I believe OEM boots can still be had for -76 here (correct me if I'm wrong). Shipping is decent, not free but not rip-off excessive and things tend to get to you quickly.

They also have a gasket set without the brass.

I don't know what shipping from Japan would be in terms of time to get wherever you live.
