Uh, wait a minute. 111 pounds on the left front wheel, 64 on the right front wheel, and 156 on the left rear??? What configuration of vehicle are you weighing? ::)

Really, do I need to explain that?

Yes, you do need to explain to my simple mind why you have three weight measurements for a two wheel vehicle.??

Okay, I forgot to mention in this post that the 3 weights are the front wheel (111lbs), the rear wheel (156lbs,) and the kickstand (64lbs).
I wanted to just stack something on a single scale, zero it, and balance the bike on it for an accurate weight on one scale, but the guys were lazy and did it their way. I was imposing so I didn't want to interfere.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.
No, I don't have it in the bedroom but I do have it in a prominent spot in the garage so I can gaze at it while I'm working on whatever.
I haven't done anything to the XR as yet but I have been working on the '73 Ironhead a little. I cleaned the carburetor even though when I got in it everything looked good. The real culprit was the petcock flowing very poorly. A little help from the air compressor and now it works good. I also put in new points and condenser that were included in the extra stuff that came with the bikes. The points I removed were mis-matched so badly that they were only hitting on half of the contact area. It now starts easily, revs fine and idles. I haven't ridden it yet because I still need to fix the front brakes and the lights. My wife and our two great-grand kids think it's a great toy. Check out the picture. I've got my eyes open for an earlier sportster, either engine only or complete bike, depending on what I can afford. If I find something I will see what kind of trade/cash deal I can work with the '73.

It might have already been suggested but, if I had an XR750 roller, I would be looking for/trying to shoe-horn in an XR1200 or Buell Thunderbolt engine into it.
Twin/matt black high mounted exhaust pipes of course.  ;)

Is there anything more fun than riding? They are between your legs and are quiet when you turn them off.

Well I found a '69 XLCH Sportster that I'm going to pick up on Friday. This is exactly the model that I was hoping to find. It has kick start only and a magneto so I will be able to use a very small battery. I didn't take my camera with me when I went to look at the bike but I will post some pics after I pick it up on Friday. It's a rough looking old thing but I think it's going tom work out just fine. In the meantime I got the '73 Ironhead licensed and running good and I've been riding it. I found out that I can jump back and forth between the Harley and my CB500 and not have too much problem with the two opposite shifter locations. Like I said I will post some pics on Friday.

Good work Bob, I'm looking forward to seeing your latest aquisition! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I picked up the '69 XLCH this morning and as promised here are some pics. It isn't the prettiest bike I've ever seen but the engine is the piece I wanted and I think it will work out fine. Now all I have to do is a bunch of work and it will be a great street tracker.

I overhauled the magneto on the '69 this past weekend. I installed the carb and changed the exhaust in order to use the chrome pipes on my '73. Now that the spark is strong I got it running in just a few kicks. it actually starts pretty easily once you get the throttle open just the right amount. Now the work can begin for real.

You called it. I just got the engine all torn down and the trans case has been welded big time. Actually the engine looks really good inside including the case repair. Bore is .070 over and the pistons look fresh. I'm taking it down all the way to replace all the gaskets and seals and anything else that I find that needs attention.

Do a thorough job checking and rebuilding the transmission and it should serve you well...and be very careful until riding rh shift has become second nature.  This is generally caused by a panic stop situation where the rider stomps the shifter instead of the brake.
If it works good, it looks good...

I think that old geezer would look more at home with my 1861 Springfield .58 cal mate, but I like his sporty, I'd like a fake XR with a big bore engine, reversed rear cylinder etc. What a great street bike that'd be! Cheers, Terry. ;D
not a HD guy but like the rifle.

Terry,
I own a 1884 Springfield 45-70. Now that is a heavy rifle. just a little lighter than the Wings.

G'Day Paul, my US Civil War rifle is actually pretty light, I wonder if anyone in the US would swap me a good 'Wang for it? Here's a pic. Cheers, Terry. ;D
