Quickest N/A CB750 Honda Gary Pena's Record Runs....in the 8's!
« on: December 05, 2013, 07:33:27 pm »
That's right, that 9.03 wasn't the quickest run after all. Heres the first  one we found.... ;D

Damn, 9.001 so close to the 8's!!!! 8)
So in the 8's he went, actually ran the 8.889 before the 9.001.

A CB 750 N/A in the 8's, that's so cool....Kenny the bar's been raised!!!
A pic of the bike he ran it on!

Another with him on it!

The bad azz engine!

The tank, new ride will be Ancient Warrior II ;D

More to come! ::) ;D Bill

I knew you guys didn't take that long road trip for nothing. Bill on a wheelie bar bike?? Now thats going to be interesting to say the least.

Okay here's the partial check list before going down the track:

Correct 2 step setting! Clutch tuned! Wheelie bar height! Wheelie bar level adjustment! Front fork stiffness! Steering dampner! Rear wheel alignment!! Pegs in the proper place! Feet on pegs@ launch! Kill switch on left side- not the right (note- the left always comes off the bars)! Body leaning forward! Seat pan as far forward as possible! Handle bars as far forward as possible! Last but not least- pucker practice! Lol

And I thought y'all weren't paying attention!  ;D Yes, Frank, that chassis was built for an Auto first, then we made sure we could put in a K or F model! I was privileged enough to have Gary build me the one in the pics. I made a deal with him on the record setting engine. There's another chassis he was going to run himself that Im also getting! I'm building the bad azz engine bike as a tribute to him and the SOHC 750 and for me and .......all you 750 nuts! ;). Probably going back out in spring, pick up chassis and engine....and maybe have a little "fabrication" done! Real excited about this one. I'm calling it Ancient Warrior II. OK Frank, you have been appointed,as per  BabyFace and me.....Crew Chief.....cause Ill need one! Did ride a wheelie bar CB 553 Yoshi drag bike(oxymoron?) twice back in the 70's. Ran low 8's 1/8 mile.
That was a long time ago, going to need your help and advice for sure. If it makes it back in the 8's ......maybe Sam can get Joey G. To ride it! Plan on riding it....just don't know about 8s!! Jay, pretty much buying Gary out of the motorcycle stuff.
Picked up a old Dale Walker cylinder, stroker crank with Golden Rods and cylinder head and pistons and cylinder, says Walker and Denco on it! Yes Frank, we going racing... with your help....and Brian Livengood's help also. Head and tranny were done by Byron,Kawasaki valves etc. Engine cc large! 1160/80? Find out tomorrow. Stay tuned, talked with Kenny @ CycleX, he's shooting for Indy Man Cup race, well be there, not sure what bikes, but Samauto will be one or sure. Stay tuned, we got a bike to build.....and ride....honey, where's the cajone stretcher?!! Bill

Bill,

You know i'm in with you all the way. When you turn it into a roller, bring it down and we'll get it wired up with either a Dyna 4000 super pro, an MSD MC4 or maybe an all in one Pro Series 2 box so we can put some nitrous on her and give you the autoshift function. You know i'm a bar bike fan so i know we can set you down the right path. A little coaching, some seat time and you can run those 8's yourself if the motor can make the horsepower again. Its going to be  a weight thing so keep that in mind when you start to select wheels, the chain, rotors etc.... Oh, and the rider might have to step back from the table too. Lol.

I never caught the drag racing bug, but you folks keep it up and you'll have me building a JMR Stage 5 F2 headed, 1000cc alloy block'd, injected, air-shifted, wheelie-bar, nitro, stroker.  (Full disclosure, I have no clue about half of what I just said and am just subscribing to this thread.)  ;)
Take care,
David

If I'm correct, I think the formula for weight and ET is for every 20 pounds, you gain 0.1 sec in 1/4 mile. I always thought it was amazing that my drag bike with me on it would run 8.90s at 145 mph, and I figured if I put a 160 lb rider on it, it would run 8.30s! The faster you want to go the lighter you are going to have to be. My wife always said if I would go on a diet, that would be the cheapest horsepower gain!

Dead on Joe. Weight will be the determining factor on this normally aspirated dragbike getting back into the 8's.

Not familiar with wheelie bar bikes, other than my son racing in juniorbike but you should be running very low 6's or high 5's at 1/8 to get to 8's at 1/4 or am I far off? Frank?
