the next job are the carburators, damned they were dirty, outside as well as inside, i took the whole set to my work there is a special degreasing unit.

made it al clean , blew all the gaps through with compressed air

the accelarotorpump was stuck, so i grinded the axle with waterproof paper, and greased it a little bit

all mounted again, if you loke closely to the picture you can see i did something wrong there, when i was ready to fire her up for the first time , i've had to search voor a half an hour before i knew what it was ( she was getting no fuel)

 :-[ I turned the float set  :-[

and clean again  ;D

the frontfork needed attention also the oilseal on both sides where worn out so i had to make my hands dirty again  ;D ;D

with the rope i put a lot of tention on the spring so i could easer remove the bolt which holds the bottem pipe in place

the oil is dirty, the coller says enough

both bottemcases of

oil seal out ( I used a big screwdriver)

old seal and the new one

the new seal by hand as far as possible in the bottemcase.

to be sure that i don't damage the new seal i put the old seal above and took a hammer to get it on the right place

don't forget to mount the oil seal stopper

next step is to get fresh oil in it, i use frontfork oil 10W from bell-ray

the neighbour came by and we had a little talk when i got back to work, i passed the motor, damned what is this  >:(

brakehose badly damaged

that needs also attention  :P

the stearingbearings are bad also so i had remove the triple tree (headstim?)
one of the bolts which holds the steer in place didn't go easy ( lot of dirt) so i tapped the thread clean

to get the top off i hammerd(easy does the trick) a screwdriver in the gap

hmm no wonder the steering had a heavy point in it, all dirty and a lot of old grease

and so she stands until the next free hours ;D

Someone take note of this thread. I think lots of people are going to be referring back to it. Some pics are
actually better then the Honda manuals. Funny how the one pic you need always seems to be missing.  ;D

before i went with next step first thing i've done was grease the rearfork(before i would forget it  ::) ), i checked it, and i couldn't feel any displacement so axle and bushing are o.k

I used normal SKF bearing grease

to get the old bearingscales out i used a big screwdriver and a hammer a fjew bangs and they went out, next thing to do was to clean the housing from old grease because i want to instal now single row taper roller bearings instead of the original bearings.

I've installed such bearings 9 years ago on my cb 750 k6 adjusted them about 500 miles later a little bit, every 3 years the triple tree gets out, bearings cleaned and new grease on it (with these bearings i've driven about 80.000 miles now, and they are still in perfect condition.

old and new bearings.

with the set of new bearings they deliverd a special thick ring that had to be mounted bij a cb750 four , that had to be mounted first.

to avoid damaging of the new bearing i made on my work a pipe with a big ring, welded it on and there is just enough clearance that i don't damage the stearing stem

on it's working place were it's gonna stay for many years ;D

the other part installed.

for the lubrication i use a molycoat grease with special high pressure qualities

very important, lubricate so much that the inner part of the part is filled with grease ( the grease comes out through the roller)

and now i pre -adjusted the bearrings, i will need to fine-adjust them when the frontfork and all is mounted

time to get the frontforks back on  ;D

after cleaning and all (just cleaning, no polishing ;D, i'm not into polshing (only with my beautiful cb750k6)

and mounted again (no i didn.t forget the covers (on which the headlight is mounted, they were to bad) so i figured something else out  8) )

so for the time beeing that's done

next step is the frontbrake, it worked, but i don't want to take any risk with it so i took it apart.

here are the parts :

the cilinder was all dirty , so i had to clean it, piston is to much damaged (rust, so the chrome is to much damaged), the ring was badly damaged (needed also a new one for that)

new one

to clean the cylinder inside i used scottisch bright, and water, to clean the ridge where the ring is in, i used a dental hook

the bleeding ??? was so rusted i couldn't get it out so i took it to my work where i heated it up with a flame and it came lose ;D when i used a big wrench

the brakehose was damaged, and i got a special offer so i had to have these braking hoses ;D

ready to do the frontbrake

when i'm putting  a brake together i use a small amount of special grease which don't react with the hydraulic braking fluid, just use a little bit

piston mounted

to old braking pads are O.K so i will use these again

frontfender and brake are installed again

with the new braking-lines are new seals deliverd, so use them  8)

 8) 8)

after i bleeded the brake i put an elektrical wire on the brakelever and get it presurised and let it overnight standing, to check if there where no leaks (i've put only for that job the frontwheel in, to get it later out again to chainge those frontwheel bearings)

this is a project i did in months dec-jan-feb-march  it came back on the road for the first time at 29th march 2006,
until now i've been driving it about 6500 miles, and had a lot of fun with it,

i had recently for the first time a big problem in the rain, (2 cilinders misfiring, ignitioncables(the cable wich is running from ignitioncoil to the sparkplug) couldn't take all that heavy raining, and other wet stuff, i went to a tankshop and bought there a plastic bag, cut it and wrapped it around the bobinecabels, and she's got me home,

I had a spare bobine in my garage, and i'm curiush wat she will do the next time in rain :P

next job was the replacement of the bearings of the frontwheel, they were bad also (i had the fortune that i could buy the bearings by the suppliers of our factory, that saved me a lot of money)

here are the parts  :), the retainerring on one side was so stucked, i had to break it(I said a fjew bad words when i had to do it  ::))

the retainerring

old and new retainerring (what a difference  :o )

al the parts(the old bearings where easy to take out, just a big screwdriver and a little hammer (300 grams)

than i cleaned al the surface's again ( i used brakecleaner),time to get the fresh bearings in again, i used a bit of bronze where i could hammer on, so i wouldn't damage the bearing

the bearing on it's place

don't forget the distance bushing

dustseal was bad, so i ordered that new

and so the frontwheel is ready to bring me many miles on the road again

all bolts which I put in  again, greased them with a little copperpaste so rusted bolt's nuts will come lose the next time if ever needed

and now it was time to give the engine itself a little service.

I drained the old oil out, it was very black

the oilfilterbolt came very easy lose (lucky me ;D)

the oilfilter itself looked bad ( it's been a long long time ago that this bike had any kind of service told me that oilfilter, so I took also the oilpan off

oilpan of, just a little dirt (no metal or aluminium(when it would be alu, i had a big problem than the primaire chain and tensioner would be in need to be replaced, to much slack in the primaire chain will make it grab in the alu casing))

everyting cleaned, fresh oil-filter, fresh O-rings (when you put the oilfiltercasing back on don't forget to oil the O-rings with a little oil, so the O-ring sets itself neatly

i decided to check the oilpump as well

the oilpump:

the filter can you get off easy, use a little screwdriver and putt it between the black rubber ring and the alu housing

the filter for the oilpump, dirty

cleaned ( i did it with a little bit of air)

to get the oilpump out, lose three bolts

here's the oilpump ass. out

to get the pump of it casing you'll need a impact driver to dismount 4 of the philps screws ( 2 of them are hiding behind the filter for the pump (the filter i already cleaned)

relief valve was ok , oil leak stopper was also ok (when you're bike stands a long time still, and there's no oil in you're oil tank (and you messured it before you set it still, than probaly the oil leakstopper aint working properly anymore)

This thread is amazing!! I don't think that I'll ever think that an old Honda is too bad to be repaired and put back on the road. John is to be commended for his mechanical abilities, his will to get it back on the road, and his photography.  Bravo!

the oilpump itself, it has a pumppart what get the oil out of the oiltank and pumps it through the engine, and a pumppart what delivers the oil back into the oiltank

i wanted to check it just to be sure ( i didn't knew anything from the former owner)

nothing to be worried about ;D

all the parts together

when you put it together use a lot of oil, and look for the centerpoint on rotor and stator of the pump they need to be on the same side

oil oil oil  :D

i had to wait for some O-rings (got a whole lot of them at work so i layed everything inhere, to get some o-rings at work)

here you can see the primairy chain, and it's tensioner (the black wheel in the top of the photo)

cleaned the compartment a little bit

oilpump and housing one part again(I hit all philpsscrews with one hit with the impactdriver after tightening by hand), installed new o-rings, don't forget to mount the three collars

and everything on it's place ;D

new gasket on the oilpan, i use a little bit of oil her so the gasket can set itselfs
