new contact ;D

The former owner had no key's for the bike, so i had to mount a new contact, i could get thisone very cheap from my cbfourparts dealer where i buy most of my parts for a CB four, because it was damaged.

Also in this picture you see on the back my new chokecable (thisone was for free, the cable and the part you screw in the holder was lose, i repaired it with a little of schrinkinghose (you heat it up and it schrinks )

the reason that it was cheap, a lip was broken of, but on my old contact (with no keys) that part was okay so i changed them

by doing these kind off things the costs stay low ;D

time to lose the bolt and let the chaintensioner to do it's work

I do this cil 1 inletvalve and outletvalve closed  and than 15 degrees after the topmark(cil 1-4) (that one you see behind the contactbreakerplate) the camchain is than on a point were the chain has the most slack, and the tensioner can do it's work ;D

lose the bolt , wait a few minutes and than tightening it

time to check the clearance of the valves (inlet 0.05 mm, outlet 0.08 mm)

when i checked it :

cylinder 1 inlet to narrow, outlet way to much
cylinder 2 inlet to much, outlet correct
cylinder 3 inlet to narrow, outlet to narrow
cylinder 4 inlet correct, outlet to much

Well, I'm involved in a CB350 resto and still have to take my hat off this guy. The reason? I would have never think of reusing many of the parts he has saved. That's where the merit is. It's fun to do an eBay search, the thrill of the hunt, and finally finding a replacement, but being able to take a rust bucket and turn it into a good-looking bike -even if not pristine- is definitely praiseworthy.

This guy killed me with the paint removal of the wheel. Having into account the price of a second hand wheel, I would have never take the annoyance to strip the paint, with all the nooks and crannies of the spokes. And what about reusing the rear fender? Well, it's painted, it's not chrome, but there is definitely a lot of merit in reusing those parts. In my opinion, that's actually restoring a bike; what I've been doing until know is just rebuilding and engine, polishing some parts, taking parts to the painter and chasing the parts missing or in bad condition. It's a lot of fun though, but I've spent more than 3k euros...

Please moderator, sticky this post. John, you speak german, don't you? If you have trouble translating just write the german term and I will tell the english term that refers to.

Two thumbs up!!!!

I know he's dutch -he said so in the first post-, but I have read some german words from him, therefore I guessed he was able to speak german.

Congratulations! This is a great post. I'm proficient at mechanics, but painting is not one of my strong points. Your tank looks great for being a home paint. Good work!
