I've been looking at wheels like these for a while Don, The ones i'm looking at are 5 spoke and 18x 4.75 and 18 x 2.75, with a number of different width sprocket carriers......., I think they are about $800-$900USD each, I haven't done the US conversion but thats close , free shipping too.... Had them bookmarked for future use for a while now...

I don't like 17's on our bikes... What brand are those ones..?

I don't know the vendor, yet. A friend of mine used them once before to make a set of mag style wheels, and is getting in touch with them to see if they can mill a set with the hubs I need. I will let you know if they can do it.

I think I mentioned I was going Motogadget on this build (M-Unit, M-Button and M-Lock). I also sprang for a Chronoclassic Dark Tach/Speedo (with black bezel) to replace my analog gauges.

you'll definitely want to install an electronic oil pressure sensor on the engine so that you can get the temp and pressure to the gauge. have anyone/anywhere locally that you can use a dyno? if so, while the bike is on it, you can set up the speed, gear positions, and shift warning lights. easier to do on a dyno than on the street, but it still pretty easy to do if just riding...

Other than the standard stock oil pressure for the "dummy light," or an analog pressure gauge mounted on the right side of the engine, what is there available to adapt to our old motors to communicate digitally to the gauge? I wasn't aware there was such a sensor nor another one for gear position.

The bike will definitely be tuned on a dyno, but I'm unfamiliar with what sensors will work with the 750 motor.

I just took delivery of a Dakota a Digital to hopefully install on my 500. Plan is to remove a galley plug below points cover on lower case, tap and install. Then run the wire to the gauge.

I know VDO also makes some electronic sensors that my BMW mechanic recommended to me. They use an external tap for oil pressure on the case.

How are you going to route the wiring from the sender unit under the crankcase so it doesn't get in the way of the header or crankcase and doesn't look like a stray loose wire?

on my 500, the ignition wires exit right about there also. I'll bundle it up into that loom and then split it out to the gauge. I'll use a weather boot and heat protection on it if its too close to the pipes, but I doubt it will be as it will run inside the frame tubes, and the pipes are just outside.

That unit looks like a better one than I ordered, I can't recall. It arrived shortly after I left town so I will look at it upon return Monday.

Thanks, Cal. I wouldn't mine using more of the functionality of the gauge to the extent reasonable. This would be for my 750 so I already have an analog pressure gauge for it. Temp would be nice but probably overkill since I'll be running with a cooler. A gear position would be trick but none of my bikes have had them so it's nothing I'd miss.

You could ditch the analog pressure gauge and wire it into the MotoG. Then, with no effort, a warning light comes on if theres trouble, or, you can monitor exactly the PSI.

The gear position indicator is embedded too. There's a setup routine in the gauge menu to establish it. You probably don't need it, but I wanted it enabled for my boys to learn by. Its a traditional BMW thing I guess...?

Definitely worth considering. I'll definitely check out your set up for ideas on the 750!

I just ordered my Shorai battery for this bike. Shorai's recommended 750 battery (LFX14L5-BS12) uses a ginormous #5 frame which is 6.3" high. I am not sure why the frame (form factor) is so large because the 14 amp/hr and 210 cold cranking amps battery is much larger than 18 amp/hr and 270 cca battery they make for my RC51 which is much smaller. I ended up going with the smaller and more robust model (so it will fit easier under my seat cowl with my Motogadget M-Unit, etc.) for a few bucks more.

In addition, I'm going to spring for one of anders288 32amp alternator/stator upgrades.

Actually I would suspect better charging system health with the m-unit. All the functions are reduced amperage and each circuit is dead until activated. The only constant is the AUX for your ignition and low beam. With LEDs and a C5 ignition, probably could power it with far less. But Anders upgrade will certainly solve any problems whatsoever.

On my other 750, I used a Trucklite LED headlight.

It looks really cool, but it is extremely heavy. The housing is die-cast metal and the polycarbonate lens is thick.

After using one of the Cyclops LED bulbs from Devin/Cognitomoto on my 550, I was surprised how bright it was without having to add so much weight. The Trucklite LED produces 1,300 lumens compared to the 3,600 lumens produced by the Cyclops. Oh yeah, and it was a crap-load cheaper, too -- about $120 cheaper; of course the Trucklite has a housing, too, so the price comparison is NOT apples-to-apples. Both are plug-and-play solutions.

Now, I'll have to see if I can find a better lens (something more unique than the stocker glass)

It does, a 60w AdvMonster spot light, and a 30w flood. It's starting to look like something out of a Mad Max film!

This bulb is seriously brighter than my Trucklite LED, which is also brighter than a standard H4 halogen. The beam has a good spread too -- wider than the more focused Trucklight.
