spark advancer from cb750 to be used on cb550 as replacement
« on: January 01, 2014, 11:49:21 PM »
hi, im new to this forum pls. bare with me :)

my mom's best friend gave me his cb550 but its in a very bad condition. i was able to buy almost all the parts needed for the restoration but my only problem is that i cannot find the correct spark advancer for the cb550. is it possible to use the spark advancer of a cb750?  it is the only one available in my country thats why im wondering if the timing and all would somehow match that of the cb550. thanks :)

itll be ok,if you have a timing light check the full advance doesent go too far,if it does just adjust to the full advance and ignore the static "f"mark type setting that the book says.

oh i forgot, the original owner also lost the special washer for the spark advancer, is there a way to fabricate it or is it also possible to use a different washer from a donor bike? or a generic washer? thanks :)

im not sure what washer you mean?the advancer goes straight onto the crankshaft end and its held by a bolt,i think you mean the big nut on the end?you must have that nut,it has two square slots that line up on the end of the advancer and locates on those two prongs,by the way dont ever use a spanner on that big(fake nut)to turn the engine over with the spark pugs installed, you will break the little lugs or bend something,i havent got a photo of that nut on hand, someone might post one if they have one?heres the advancer itself, the fake nut locates onto those those two protruding lugs.

this shot just shows how if you dissemble the unit to be sure to align it the way it came apart, itll be 180 out otherwise and wont run unless you switch the blue and yellow wires over, lets not get into that, too much info?

Here you go the nut.Not sure if parts numbers for the advance are the same 750 is 300 and 550 is 323.Must be something different otherwise Honda would have kept the same numbers may be wrong. All the best

Hey yesteryear, that's exactly the one im looking for. Ive been looking all over for that but i cant get a hold of one. Im currently using the spark advancer from a cb750 and it fits well so maybe ill try to look for cb7750 special washer. . I saw a few in ebay but its too damn expensive. . $150 for the special washer is just too much i think

Dave thanks for the advice the spark advancer fits well with the contact breaker

@bjbuchanan, thanks a lot. I was able to get one from a 81 cb750 decommissioned police bike for about 20$. Thanks a lot guys for the help.
Anyway, is there a chance that i can swap the 81 cb750 front end with my 75 cb550? A friend of mine told me that the 76 cb750 will fit but he's not sure if 81 will. Thanks in advance

Forks are a bigger diamete on the 81 and dont think the trees will fit without a lot of mods
