Topic: What should i offer for a cb400f header in decent shape?

a guy i ran into at work has an oem cb400f 4-1 header. he claims it to be solid and in good shape. i know it will fit one of my cb350f's. what do you think i should offer? what should i not pay over?

used ones on ebay go for $150 and up....

If it still has good chrome and the original muffler it would be some good $$'s, but don't tell them that

I've kept my eyes peeled looking for a nice stock replacement header for mine, too.  The muffler is easy enough to find through David Silver, ($158.00) The headers are also available through Silver but the collector is a bit different from stock.  The prices people ask for used parts makes you wonder how they can look in the mirror.  I see dented, scraped and rusted pieces of s--t for $150-$400..or more   

I've come to the conclusion that it will be easier to go with a nice (even if not perfectly correct) new header and muffler for practically the same amount of money.

LOL i work at a stealership. come on now. he can always counter offer higher. didnt say i wouldnt pay higher just said what id offer. he sold me my complete cb350 twin for 200 bucks so well see

I get all that, that you will pay more..but..
You are the guy selling him parts at full nut everyday..
Then when he has something for you..you lowball him..
 ..now if you were him, how would you feel about the guy making the offer.. What would your opinion of him, now be?

I am not saying it cant be done, just hard to tell thru computer how well you know them , and how skillful you can negotiate with them..

not to negate your point because i see where you are coming from, but one of the reasons he comes to me is because i consistently give him 10% or more off. plus im really good at finding oddball stuff for him when he needs it. for example, i just found him a part of the shifting actuator arm and bearing assembly for a cb350g he had been searching for for 4 months with no luck. i had the parts in my hand within 2 hours of finding out what he was looking for them from a friend of mine at no charge. recently saw a worn out rusty set of the same parts pop up on ebay for 50 bucks buy it now. the listing lasted 3 hours
