We found an engine!!!! And by we I mean Bill Benton

what a guy! He is picking it up sometime later this week. It's a 71' with 2000 miles on it! Still gonna do fresh pistons, rings Etc but it's a GREAT starting point. Very very very excited. My brother and I pulled the motor out after fighting with it for a good but. Still a rolling frame but I feel like I have some more motivation now. Will update with pics and such soon. Great Chef!! I know your ready to get rolling now. Yeah I met Bill back in 2011 in Rockingham,NC at the first relay ride. We were able to talk a little bit, his a nice guy and knows just about all their is to know about all the old Honda stuff.

Thanks guys I am excited! Hopefully getting out of this mental ad physical rut. Yes 70cb750 that is the plan. To haul my k1 and the 450 up to upstate ny where it all started for him (his mothers house he grew up in) for the family party/reveal. Still have trailer logistics to sort out. Unsure if you can rent a uhaul utility trailer for more than one day

Or pistons? Maybe a good compression check before you tear into it.

If you are going to re-ring and piston it, why not do that to your current motor? Despite it being seized, it's likely viable after machining.

Bill said the top end is not currently on the engine, the engine was in a wrecked bike at only 2000 miles and I think the pistons were taken out. Still has to be built up, gotta go through it and refresh things anyway. I want it at fresh as I can afford for my dad so there are no worries on his end. He can do his own maintenance but I don't want him having to do any major work. I'm fairly sure the existing engine I have is toast. More than likely going to try and take it apart though....for science!

Any way you go, we are all rooting for you! Hope between the 2 motors you get 1 that's usable and solid. I'm waiting for my jugs to be rough drilled so I know how far I have to bore them to repair the damage after getting them unstuck. Didn't look too bad, but only a machinist can't tell...

For sure cal, a machinist I am not. Its a little daunting truthfully, but once I get over this engine hurdle I have confidence in all other areas. Will begin restoring little parts/sub sections here and there so I don't big myself down. Biggest hurdle right now is money, trying to avoid funding this by myself...since I want it to be a family gift, but no one else has the passion or vision I guess. If I have to sell Fiona I will but I am hoping to avoid that :/

Renting a trailer for multiple days should not be an issue. Heck, you might even find a local member that has a bike trailer you could use.

If they don't bike it's hard to instill the passion riders have for it.

not dead here guys, just not much to update. I got the carbs off and cleaned out. surprisingly easy. WAYYY easier than my K1 thats for sure. all the brass looks good but I am getting new float valves and new floats. have oem gasket kits on the way too. the floats don't have holes but I like precaution. all the jets look great. going to sodablast them soon and paint like my K1 carbs. the frame is almost bare, I need to get that so I can get that frame cleaned and painted. then that will be two things off the list! honestly the part stalling me most is money. I am going to make this happen though, there is no alternative. stay with me guys....its slow but soon it will be cookin

The most tender meat is Slow-cooked, Chef! Make sure you ultrasonically clean those carbs after blasting. Or dip and blow them out really well.

Yes sir they will be! The great thing about soda is it's very difficult to clog passages. Yes I will go through each passage though. Bill has the engine up in ATL. I need pistons. I think he said he found rings but I need pistons and wrist pins. At 2000 miles the bores should be well in spec right?

I'd suspect so. Can't you pull down your "stuck" motor and get this pistons evaluated?

a 450 definitely should be as long as the oil was changed and the motor not thrashed....Larry

Cal, I am trying to find NOS pistons to go with the new engine. figure if its gonna be fresh.... the stuck motor has 24k on them...and they're more than likely rusted shut. I may literally push this motor off a cliff.....too bad the southeast is flat. haha

Keep it. Maybe I'll drive down, pick it up, bring it home, un-stuck it for you, then bring it back. Then, you can scavenge or rebuild it for your next build.

Or I might...

Probably only the rings are spent, not the pistons despite the mileage. Though, I certainly understand the preference to do it "right". Hope your family chips in with the funding for the project!

Dont buy pistons till you measure/inspect the bores. ..could be pitted..

If things are really hard to find maybe you could add a 500T engine or top end to your list of possible parts
I have seen a few for sale on honda twins.net before but haven't looked lately,if you are a member there you can put up an ad in parts wanted.... haven't seen many in the Northeast on CL., I check regularly, just an idea... good luck.

Bill` said the bores cleaned up nice with a honing and are in spec for stock pistons. on the hunt for some now. pistons, wrist pins, clips, cam chain, and gasket kit are on the list of things. then its up to ATL to build it with his help. lots of fun to be had soon!
