Last time I ran my '78 cb750 F2 was a few years ago. When it was running, it would occasionally smoke but I couldn't exactly tell if it happened at any particular time. It wasn't constantly smoking, and it wasn't only smoking on startup, and it wouldn't always smoke when revving high but occasionally. Valve guides shot?
Second problem. I stopped riding it because someone stole my battery and ruined a bunch of wires. They were stock and were in such bad shape I figured I'd redo the entire harness instead of fiddle with it and rain filled my pipe since it accidentally stuck out of the cover, evaporated in spring, and got into the cylinders. They never stuck but I can see some pitting. I haven't used a feeler gauge yet but It only looks to be a couple thou. I don't know how much blowby that might allow but I'm not going to put it back together without at least bandaiding it if not completely resleeving. If I resleeve though, I'm just going to jump on a big bore kit from Wiseco, cycleX, or APE. From what I read, the 836 kit seems to be the most ideal for preserving low-rpm/street performance (but please advise me on this as going up to a litre would be fun)/
I cracked the case and am carefully cleaning everything although there's no glazing and it all looks pretty sparkly clean other than the hideous state of buildup on the pistons. The oil was emptied immediately upon discovery of moisture in the jugs.
Thanks guys, I am pretty new to this but great with mechanical stuff and will learn fast and am not intimidated by hefty projects if that's what's required.
