When is the official word on sunsetting the support?
I heard they moved it again, hopefully to October 2014?  :)

free software of the Linux type, very different from windows

it really is to bad about XP, it is the only version that actually sort of works.

I'm running windows 7 and I love it. Not a windows 8 fan at all ( don't like that funky splash screen).

XP was good but 7 is as good if not better. It's just a matter of personal customization.

This talk about viruses. I haven't had one in 15 or more years.
My PC hasn't crashed since 7 was installed either.

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

+ 1 for Mac. No crashes, viruses, booting up takes about 5 seconds.

If you like your Office and Word, then get Office for Mac.

Simple.

Christo, I've never had a virus on any computer I've owned and I go everywhere, good anti virus fixes all that...
I have used Kaspersky for years now and its excellent.... ;)

I use Kaspersky as well Mick and I reckon that it's the Dogs Bollocks.  ;D
Never had a problem with it.
I reckon that Norton is a bit of a resource hog but Kaspersky just ticks over in the background and does the job. ;D
If I was you
I'd be worried about me.

For work purposes, windows is good. For home where i mainly Internet surf, download photos, videos, Mac is the winner. So simple and crisp.

Iv used both and tend to favour Mac. Each to there own. The best is what your used to in the end.

Win 7 works for me.  My wifes new laptop had Win 8, my first job was to make it as Win 7 as possible (downloaded an app to get the Start button back).

I truly believe that if a competitor had been ready with a viable alternative (i.e., consumer friendly and ready for purchase), Win 8 would have driven a LOT of people away.  Microsoft benefits from not having competition in the PC market.  Too bad for us.

If ony Chrome had be fully polished, poised for deployment . . . I can only dream.  Don't get me wrong - not a Chrome fan (as it was published) - but would love a "plug and play" alternative to Win 8.  Someone at Microsoft crapped the bed on Win 8, and we're being told that the smell and texture is actually pleasing to the senses....

The only thing I hate about Windoze is Internet Explorer. That's why I've used Firefox for as long as I can remember.

Oh, I'll go farther.  The only way it boots in 5 seconds is because it was just in sleep mode.

People talk like Mac or Linux is a gift from God.  I've had experience wit all of them. I can't get either Linux or Ubuntu to see the network. I can't get Ubuntu to do much of anything except to browse the intarwebs, and get email. And I can't tell you how many times my Wife has cussed her Mac.

This is almost better than an oil thread.
