5 years ago about this time i got my first motorcycle. it is a nearly stock 1977 Honda CB400f. it had sat in a guys garage for about 15 years then it sat in my dads motorcycle shop (Valley Cycle Service in East McKeesport) for another about another 10. in half an hour i had it running then after a minor restoration i learned to ride on it. that first day out on the road i knew i had to build one into a race bike. since then I have bought 2 more for parts and the intention of building one for just that. Fast forward to a couple months ago i was talking to my friend who is currently building an old Norton into a race spec street bike and he agreed to not only help me build mine but also build his own. tonight we will be starting to tear them down with the hope to have them ready for the May 10th WERA race at Summit Point. Here is our starting point
i have been doing alot of research on here for the past couple months and so far have decided that to stay within WERA's rules for V2 and Formula 500 (
http://maps.wera.com/rulebook/?x=1098#ch11)
So far it seems like we will be going with a stock motor, may upgrade some internals (oil pump, cam chain tensioner, but can not do an overbore), Removing the charging system, Bore the stock carbs, Pod filter or velocity stacks, Cb550 triple tree, forks, axle, and hub, 2 dual piston brakes (probably from a 81 cb750f) in the front, stock swingarm (for now anyway) with stock rear wheel and brakes, a cafe style seat, stock gas tank, clip on handlebars, stock exhaust header, aftermarket muffler, and a small viper fairing.
any and all suggestions are welcome, ill do my best to keep this thread up to date
