75 CB550 chain
« on: February 22, 2014, 07:12:34 AM »
I have a 75 CB550 and I want to get a new chain. When I counted the links there's only 100, is that stock? That seems extremely short. The bike is stock with a 37 back sprocket, didn't check the front but should add much more. I've had a 82 CB750 and as I recall there were around 100 links. Also I believe my 75 is a four but what is the difference from the k and F?

Differences are cosmetic really. The F was called Supersport and had 4-1 exhaust system. K had 4-4. Some minor frame differences between the two.
100 links is correct. Make sure you don't get o-ring or x-ring chain as these can chew up the engine cases.

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Thanks for explaining the differences in the models. Regarding the chain, is it normal that mine only has 50 links, is that possible? I counted twice, started from the master link. I counted it again this time making a mark on the master link just in case  I had two master link  for some strange reason. You never know with these old bike what the previous owners have done to them. I still came up with 50 links

I think maybe you need to review how to count the links. This might help?

yes. count the pins, not the plates. it is not possible that your chain has 50 links.

What he said! Don't get an o-ring or an x-ring chain.
I got an o-ring chain once. Definitely did some damage on the sprocket cover haha

All things being stock like sprocket size, 530 x 100 links will fit perfectly.
