Hey All,
I got alot looked at and all the electrical is working great on my 79. I took the battery out of my 75 and it cranked over great but no start. I static timed and gapped the points. I need now to look at the fuel system. I'm going to shoot some starting fluid in the intake tomorrow . I hope I can hear it run for a sec or two on the starting fluid. Then I  know where to go from there.

Sorry bout the news about head gasket. Got mine running but I think the carbs need going thru . I was thinking about sending them out to that guy that will do the mod to them and do the rebuild also. The paint on the bike is in really good condition. I'm going to take off the exhaust system and blast and paint it (maybe black w/red flames) polish all the aluminium ,put on a new timming belt , set the valves and timming , put on some black bomber points , flush the cooling system and gas tank. The previous owner put on new rubber and brakes and rebuilt the front end. I have 2 extra sets of carbs and a set of megaphone exhaust headders (for sale) if anyone is interested

Nice looking bike.

I just got my 79 running. Wel kinda. LOL
I tried to start it the other day and sputtered and cough. I was just in the garage looking at it again. 1 and 3 wires where switched. I sprayed some starting fluid in her and she ran for about 10 seconds. I'm a happy camper. Now I need to get the carb flowing fuel.

I'm on the lookout for a GL Standard this winter...I've never ridden one, but I like the look of them a lot and from what I can gather are good bikes. I like 'em because they're beefy, purposeful looking in Standard trim.

Are they fun to drive?

Depends on the type of driving you do....

Think of them as a smooth sport tourer and you'll not be far off the mark.

Not really comparable to modern sport tourers but they have a panache all thier own.

My riding is mostly 40-60mph on twisty hilly two lane blacktop...Nova Scotia is full of roads very much like the PCH 1 between San Francisco and Montery.

I've read most of the material I could find on goldwings including the sites listed in threads here at sohc4.net and I think the combination of low center of gravity and size/stability of a goldwing would suit me well.

One issue here is the major haulers simply won't transport a bike to Nova Scotia (too remote I guess), so my search is limited to Ontario and Quebec, possibly Maine and Mass...

If I had my choice I'd buy a 1984 Standard (hard to find) , but there are a few well maintained original trim 1980 standard GL1100's in Black I'm considering...most of the GL1000's in eastern Canada I've seen are used up...

Im in Boston, Mass and have driven many long distance trips on my CB750K4. If you find a running GL1000 that you want delivered to Nova Scotia then Id be willing to ride it up to you  :). All for the cost of the trip itself (gas money really and any accomdation costs depending on length of ride and ferry ride back home). PM me if you want to consider it.

P.S. A friend of mine here in Boston just picked up a running GL1000 (1977) with carb issues (running too rich) for $450. Full fairing, no rust, all chrome good and aluminium rims). Apparently there are a lot here in the want ads.

I just acquired an 81 GL1100 it came to me in about a hundred parts. It has been disassembled for about 9 years but most of the parts are there. It has 41,000 miles on it. I just about have the carburetors back together. Even though they were taken off the bike they still had gas siting in them for nine years and the rebuild is going slowly. If I finish them I am going to try and start the engine this weekend. It cranks over and I poured some mystery oil in the cylinders a couple of weeks ago. How the engine runs will decide where to go from there. Either tear the engine down or start on the brakes.

That is one sweet Wing!  The cafe seat is outrageous!  What did it take to get the Dunstalls on and where are you hanging them? (if you don't mind me asking, that is)

I am currently restoring a '76 from a bagger to a nice naked look.  Here is where it started, and I have all the unnecessary bits taken off, and a really nice stock seat a la Ebay.  When I got it, the stereo worked great, and of course when I turned it on it was tuned to a station playing vintage Donna Summer!  Shag-a-licious Baby! 



Next up will be to repair the muffler (swiss cheese) and get it and the headers Jet Hot coated blue.  I will then also add on Randakks fuel pump and carb rebuilds.

Let us know how that gorgeous bike comes back together

Hey the mufflers are stuck on the stock head pipes. Hanging from a bracket from the rear foot pegs.

Randakk's kits are the best there is for carbs.

Dunno if I would buy the fuel pump kit if your mechanical one is working. Why spend the money?

Well with my boys Wing, we didn't go teh Cafe route.....we took a different approach to modifying his Wing. Started of as a full-dresser...an '82 Interstate, but this is where its at right now:








At this point, it's almmost 200lbs lighter than in its Interstate configuration! Should have it on the road, cruising along come spring.
A good bike mechanic only needs two tools, WD40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move, but should, use the WD40. If it does move but shouldn't use the duct tape.
