Power outage (Couple pictures)
« on: March 17, 2014, 06:59:31 PM »
Early Thursday morning around 1:00 am March 6th me along with thousands of other people lost power due to a severe ice storm. My power wasn't back on until Monday March 10th and internet service was not up and running until today. Sure missed talking to all the sohc4 members here. Feels good to be back ;D

Hey Stev-o. You just dont realize how a custom you get with things until they are taking away for a little while. This type of weather happens so seldom in my part of North Carolina. But when it does Mother Nature really puts it to us. It honestly looked like a war zone in alot of areas.

I hear ya about taking stuff like that for granted. When I lived in Wyoming about 15 years ago we had an outdoor water pipe freeze up. Everyone was saying hook a welder up to it and it would open it right up but we couldn't because there was some PVC pipe involved. Going without water for 4 days really sucked!!

That was low  ;D
Glad you're thawing out!
About every 4-5 years we have a good stretch during the winter without power.  Not necessarily from ice or snow, but from excessive PNW rain softening the ground, and then wind storms blowing trees over.  Hate it every time.
A gas generator kept us warm and the pipes from bursting about 8 years back when we were out for 6 days during a big snow year.
Most recently we were out for 2 days from a wind storm.
Well worth the cost of the electrician to install an outlet at my panel, and another SOHC for me to maintain  ;D
A lot cheaper than a plumber and a water damage guy, too  :P

These were took 2 to 3 days after the ice storm and a lot of clean up had already happened. So this looks really good compared to right after the storm. If I had thought about I would of took some pics right after it happened and you could of seen how bad it really was. I didn't get power back for another few days after this.
