CycleX Dual Carbs on 550
« on: March 28, 2014, 07:15:49 PM »
I have seen where folks are running 750 carbs on their 550s, but also that the CycleX Dual Carb setup won't fit. Does anyone know why? Is it a frame clearance issue? Say they aren't going into a stock frame where clearance would be an issue, would they fit up?  I assume a different size carb boot would be necessary?

The cycleX dual carb setup doesn't fit on a stock frame 750, the frame is in the way. I'd assume that it's the same on the other bikes.

Makes sense. The question is will the intakes fit up to the motor on the 550? The frame on the 550 will NOT be stock anymore, and will have plenty of clearance.

No, they won't fit up.  The intakes have the bend built into them to use straight rubber intake boots.  With the 550, the intake runners are all straight at the head, so the intake manifold won't line up.

There's a thread on here somewhere in which the member did install these. Have a good search and extract his mods.

If you're intent on using duals, mods are in your future. If you want up scaled performance, try Godferrey for a set of his CR26s made to fit a 550 engine. Despite your frame being clearanced, his will bolt straight on.
