So I lifted up the tank on my bike and saw this. Ive now owned it for a few days and its been one bummer after another. Now I see someone has cut the frame! How bad is this?

That's what we used to call, "very serious".  :-\

Without the 2 triangle support tubes, there will be LOTS of side-to-side and twisting motion imparted by bumps, let alone lean-over angles in turns. I would imagine it to feel like it has a mind of its own?

You can insert some mild steel tubes and just weld them in place: they are not a fancy shape or anything like that. They just go straight from the cut-off holes at the back to their matching cut-off holes in the front, and there is a trio of cross-braces just behind those coils to stabilize them, which are similarly important. If you need pix, I can get some from the frames out back tomorrow.

That would be nice! I think this might be a good time to do a splice kit

I would recommend Frank's (754) splice kit. Problem is, those tubes have been cut too far back to use it. You're going to need to extend those tubes to use any kit that I've seen. Shame.

Maybe a longshot, but do you think the PO might have the piece he removed? If you can resist wrapping it round his neck it might be easier to weld it back in and start again?

I bought a bike once that had the same issue when I got it home. Luckily I bought it very cheap.
Now I, and everybody else who is looking at a 750, should take a peek under the tank to make sure those frame sections are still intact.

Someone saved you the trouble of cutting the frame yourself. Nifty! Now you can do a splice kit like the 750 should have had in the first place. Keep the weld heat down for the extensions and you'll be fine.

The key to extending those and ending up straight will be, using internal sleeves to help line it up. I can make those and maybe supply the tubing.
If, you weld a whole new section in, then cut it in proper place, everything should stay straight.
Is any of the upper brace left, as you will have to do some work there as well. Or make some new pieces.

Yours is clearly cut too far back, but can be fixed up.
