Topic: Cheap Carbon Remover Suggestions.

I'm currently in the process of converting my little Hilux ute to fuel injection.  The intake I have to go on it came of an engine that had been cooked multiple times.  It has a huge build up of carbon and sludge in the intake and long 'S' shaped runners to boot.  So poking a toothbrush up them and scrubbing them out is out of the question.  I need something I can soak it in that doesn't cost the earth, won't damage the aluminium and will break down the sludge.  Any help would be appreciated .

I've used this stuff called Carbrosol and also called Carbolene Andrew.
It's a cold wash and doesn't bother aluminium but it has to be fully submerged in the liquid.

We use to clean alloy heads and auto trans cases in it and also the guts from the trannys.

It was about 120 bucks for 20L and you dilute it with water to fill 44 gallon plastic drum.

It rips paint off as well.
Maybe an engine rebuilding or an auto trans joint might be able to help out for a carton of coldies.

Thanks Mick, I work at the engine rebuilding place in town, I know we don't have any of that.  Hence why I'm asking.  I'll have to look around see if I can get some in a smaller container

Thought about that Dave, but the 'S' shape of the manifold makes it impossible to ensure that it is clean all the way through, I really need something to disolve the crap in there.

old fashioned hot tank with alloy compatible fluid seems the only real choice?whats the odds on sourcing a cleaner one?

With no money, nil to none.  It is a 4Y EFI manifold that I'm putting on a 2Y engine with 3S engine management out of a camry on it.  The 4Y EFI manifolds are a little thin on the ground, they didn't come out in many models and on most were an option.  In total thus far this conversion has cost me $40, and truth be told I couldn't really afford that.  I realise I'm going to have to outlay some cash to finish it but I've just got to minimise it at the moment.

small wire wheel on flex extention?how about cut a 44 up and make a boiler,use some degreaser warmed up and let it soak etc?rope with knots chucked in a drill and spin the #$%* out of it?

I have got half a keg in the shed I use for scalding chooks before I remove their feathers when we have meat chooks.  I have been thinking that I may be able to boil it in that but I don't know what to put in with the water.  I have been thinking of trying some degreaser or even dishwashing detergent to break down the oil build up and hope the carbon comes away with it.  Dunno if it will work though.  Might give it a crack tomorrow if no one comes up with a better idea that is cheap.
