Carb Boot Installation
« on: April 24, 2014, 05:08:34 PM »
Long time reader, first time poster here.  Love the site and have learned a lot here.  I have a 76 CB750A that I bought last year and put some miles on, never really ran right.  I rebuilt the carbs and when I removed them the boots from the engine to the carb plate were not "on all the way".  I am attaching a picture to see if boot number 3 or boot number 4 is correct when installed on the bike.  Thanks in advance for any help!!!!

Hi , there are a number of posts on this topic but my take is as follows.
The carb side has a groove and the insulator a ridge which should fit (clip) in to seat correctly. The same goes for the cylinder head side. The method to fit the insulators is to first fit to the head and turn them until they are inline using a straight edge. The head inlets are offset but the carb side are in line. When the insulators are correctly seated on the head tighten the clips at the cyl head. Offer up the carbs and they should then be pushed into place until they "click" into place. This is easier said than done if the insulators have hardened with age. When seated correctly the insulators should butt up against the carb holding plate as shown with the no 3 in your pic. The various posts on this fitment show methods such as using straps to pull the carbs into position because of the hardening of the insulators. Using rubber grease or even gasket bond may assist in easier fitment and sealing. Make sure you fit the airbox in the frame before you offer up the carbs. Hope this helps. Would like to hear about the outcome

Mornin, looking at the boots you have on there, they do not look like 750A boots. One looks like a K model. You might need to verify you have the right boots. All of mine clear the screws.
