A little story then.
I never rode a bike, and never owned a bike before 2013. I only knew that I wanted a 1972 honda cb500 four.
My dad had the same motorcycle, given as a present from his dad (that I never met) while he was studying at university.
I always loved his stories about that motorcycle, and probably as a tribute to him I bought my first bike in January 2013.
It came in boxes
Once unpacked them:
I got it from a guy that lost interest in the project and had it for 7 years in his garage, the good thing was that the engine was rebuilt and the frame power coated (but hacked and detabbed), with a great king/queen seat:
After few months of wrenching in the underground parking lot (luckily my neighbours are easy going), I was finally able to put the puzzle pieces together and start it.
what an exciting day, but there was a lot of work to do, and slowly i got the bike ready for summer. In the meantime I got my learners licence and tried to fix the many electrical issues on it.
Once I got it on the road, I was able to pass my licence test right away and enjoy riding it for a couple of summer months, before having to park it for the cold season.
I then took it apart again, trying to resolve the few bugs and upgrade few parts. I rebuilt the brakes, changed the controls and the handlebar, rebuilt the forks, the electrical system and charging system.
there still some room for improvement, but the bike is running strong and at every turn it makes me happy.
it is quite different from what my dad was riding, i am sure, but for me what it really matters is that it is a 1972 honda cb500 four!
