I've skulked around here long enough like a peeping tom looking in your windows seeing what everyone is up to, so it's about time I came in, said hello, admitted that I've been stealing some of your know-how and asked for as much help as you're all willing to give me!
Quick history - my dad rode trials, scrambles and grasstrack in the 50s and 60s when it was all done on the same bike - he was good enough to have a trophy cabinet full from local competitions - so my brother and I always liked bikes from an early age. My brother had bikes and I used to sneak out on his BSA Starfire, Royal Enfield Turbo Twin or my dad's Ossa when they weren't about. I came back to motorcycles 20 years ago when my brother's wife was pregnant and I bought her Kawasaki KC100, followed it with a Suzuki GS500, then a CBR 600 FM, and a Triumph Speed Triple t509. The Speed Triple breaking down one day made me realise how little I knew about the technical side - the fuel pump wasn't pumping at high enough pressure....I'd never have sorted that, so i bought a Honda CM400t to gain some knowledge - it barely ran, carbs leaked, wiring was all over the shop and spewing out of the damaged headlight, fixed the faults, trimmed it down and made a new (much smaller) seat and sold it on - that was 2 years ago and it still starts first time, every time, apparently.
I bought a CB550K3 two years ago, but hurt my back the day I collected it, meaning that nothing was done for nearly a year. It's time to sort it.
I'm looking forward to asking stupid questions about how to sort out my bag of bits.
Regards, ecurb
if I can, I'll post a picture on the day of collection.
