Blown head gasket? (cb450)
« on: May 18, 2014, 06:00:41 PM »
Alright I was having a problem with my cb450 where on of my head nuts was coming loose even though I was torquing it down to the correct number of ft lbs. Put some locktite on it and torqued it again. Now its smoking out of the engine breather and right exhaust BAD.

The only thing I can think of is a blown head gasket which i'm really hoping its not.

Any ideas?

White smoke?

Do me a favor and smell your dipstick. Just make sure there's no gas.

Gas would explain smoking out the breather and exhaust. Happens to these bikes due to the angle of the carbs if you leave the petcock on.

Doesn't explain the nuts coming loose like that though.

Looks white but can't tell, it was late dusk getting kind of dark. Way way too much smoke for me to think it's condensation.

Gas in oil produces white smoke too.

I'd smell your dipstick first. It take s couple seconds. Good habit to get into.

Blown head gasket means engine has to come out. Not a biggy.

Does not smell like gas. Right cyl is just burning a metric ton of oil.
