BMW R75/5

I bought this R75/5 last fall in "ran when parked condition". Well, the engine ran when parked, but, I'm pretty sure that the transmission was WHY it was parked. Anyway, I just finished swapping a /6 5 speed into it, and took it out for a ride.

I see you're switching to the smaller tank.   I think they look way better than the larger one.

I just picked up this little gem on Thursday:


Direction I'm headed:


I've got a complete bodywork set that I snagged off of eBay last fall, already painted this color, but, sans pinstriping.    Unfortunately the tank from that set is pretty nasty inside, so, I've got some work to do that before swapping the bodywork.   The bodywork on currently on the bike will be sold to recoup some of the money spent on the red set.

I've also got a complete Brembo dual-disc front end that I'll be putting on it too.    I'll be getting ride of the stupid cable-actuated under-tank master cylinder, and using a conventional handlebar mounted one.

You have too many nice bikes.  :)

My 1974 R60/6 and my 1980 R100 were two of my favorites. I never should have sold the R100.

yes i love my bmw boxers as well
the first picture is my 1971 r75/5 in italy two years ago
the second my 1984 r80st in corsica last year , mostly use the st these days as its a bit more comfortable and the brakes are much better . doesn't have the tank range of the old girl though
off to sardinia in a couple of weeks , due to family stuff it has not even been washed since last year . will at least change the  oil !

Love your mates R11s. Have lusted after the R12s for a few years. May skip past it and replace my K100rs  with the new K13s.

Did your 73' R75/5 originally come w/ the 'toaster tank' that matches the sidecovers on it ?

Yes, it did, but, because it sat for a long time with fuel in it, that tank was quite rusty inside, with the paint-in liner pealing off.    I've treated it with rust remover, and gotten the rust out, but, I still have the pealing liner to deal with.
I picked up the /6 tank off eBay, which is perfectly clean inside, with the liner fully intact.

I dealt with a similar issue on my tank. Soaked it in Acetone to remove the liner. Big, flaky peels came up quite easily. That, is a beautiful bike!

Have that same Corbin for mine.
