78 K8 seat lock issue
« on: June 09, 2014, 01:28:02 PM »
I got this bike with no keys, what a surprise.  The seat is locked onto the frame but not the seat pins.  I can turn it.  Im not caring if the lock is destroyed as its going to get replaced with a matched seat and ignition.

I have tried a flatblade, just didn't work.

Does this mean you removed the seat pins and can turn the seat? If so, then you should be able to turn the seat far enough (about 90 degrees) to disengage the seat latch. This will likely require removing the grab bar (if so equipped).

If you have not removed the hinge pins, then do so and follow the steps above. You might be able to lift the seat enough to unbolt the latch from the bottom of the seat. Once the latch is freed, you can disassemble the seat latch lock cylinder and remove the little brass lock pins. Then the seat latch lock would function like the tank flap lock as a "pseudo" lock.
