Dear mates,

It's difficult to update unless I have someone here to help me, because I get confused at times and have difficulty seeing and typing, but if you'd like to ring, my room has changed to 414A and my new phone number is (804) 649-5867. I've received loads of gifts, including an edible arrangement, some wrenches, a t-shirt, oil, reading glasses and more. I cannot thank you all enough for the gifts, and for keeping me in your thoughts, it means so much. For now, the plan is to eventually get me back home once I'm more stable, so that I can begin rehabilitation. Thank you again. Will try and update soon.

Bill - do you know the status of Sam's dentures? Nurses thought they were with you... She indicated to me that  usually they are left with attending friend/family when admitted.

Thanks, Bill. I will be heading back up after supper and will seek them out. Spent a bit of time with Sam today. Got him eating a bit, and he's coming clearer on certain things. Still a bit foggy on others.

He's getting sutures out today, so he's upbeat about that. Mostly, I think he's just tired of not feeling great and being strapped and wired into that horrendous hospital bed  :-X

A picture or two from today's visit:

Hey Sam not been on here for ages and was shocked to see you have a bit of a crash  :o

Glad to see you are on the mend.

Pity it's not a bit nearer Christmas though, because if you keep on nurturing that beard, you'll make a great Santa Claus!

Spent supper hours with Sam last evening. Saw some really good improvement in him when I first turned up. He regaled me with a few stories about Bill, Larry and his good mate, Nick from Liverpool. He was quite concerned that his pals at the pub may not know he's been laid up here.

He is also quite determined to know whether he still is in the hunt for the points championship in the Man Cup. I tried to explain the unlike Olympic Diving, points are only awarded for actual runs "completed" and that no "artistic flair" points are available. That got a grin at least.

He still comes and goes a bit in his concentration and memory, but that is to be expected and is I'm told, quite normal. His mood seems bright, though he gets a bit antsy, as anyone would. He's looking forward very eagerly to Bill's visit on Friday too.

I've mentioned a number of times all the heartfelt messages, and efforts being gathered in his support. He's very grateful and speaks very highly of the "great group of friends" he's made through racing and the forum. Reading is still a bit tricky due to not having his glasses, and probably some residue from the injury.

Got the stitches out of his scalp today and arranging for him to shower and shave today. Nothing like washing off the stench and film of being in a hospital to make you feel 100% better. The hunt for his dentures and glasses continues, but I'm heading up again shortly to track those down if they're still on premise.

Still has no specific memory of the ride, only characterizes it as "the bike threw me off" without being able to elaborate. I spoke with Bill last night, and we will just let time and Sam, sift through the events and see what comes back to him. I'd imagine when Sam returns with Bill in the coming weeks to Atlanta, and reviews his bike, some things may come back to him.

A picture of our man, Sam healing up!

Points updated...but as usual no respect, left me out, no Sunday points showing. Sam, you got no points, but are tied with a few others for 20th. I only get 11 I think for Sunday. So that would tie me for 29th! So did move up 6 places! K. Valdosta hope to leave in top 15. Then Top Ten in last event..that's the goals! Bill  ;D Sam 62 points, me 53. 8)

Good afternoon y'all  ;)

I have just got off the phone, i think i called the wrong number.....My Dad is back!

He has shown a massive improvement since i last spoke to him, i have told him a bit more about what happened, he didnt realize how bad his condition was. He is so much more coherent, very little confusion and sounded more like the man i spoke to before he went  :D

He still has a long recovery in front of him and will still need acute brain injury rehabilitation. That helmet really did save his life.

I told him of all the well wishes he has had off everyone and he would like to thank everyone that has done so, also to all that have donated to the recovery fund, he would like to thank you all, that really means a lot to him.

The only thing that disappointed me was him going on and on about the points that he has been awarded and weather to put an appeal in to the organisation!!! You cant take the bike out of the biker  >:(

Please keep supporting and and wishing him a speedy recovery as mentioned before, he still has a way to go.

Thanks for everything,

Sam and Jonathan.

Jonathan, just got off the phone with him! He is back! Doesn't recall first post etc. So I talked with the "real" Sam Green tonight. So cool. He knows about his leathers! Was bummed! I got a plan!  ;D
He is done racing....not done helping/ being Sam Green, just retiring for now! Sam Wills said same thing! Haha!  ::) I let him know he's got our full support no matter the decisions. He doesn't remember going to Va. Asked how about picking up at airport? Same thing ...no. So he knows helmet saved his life... Frank, (Dragracer) I'll have both bikes at track, can ride either, Jon, Larry, same deal. Any Team Sam Green member offer holds! RC You know you welcome...a little slow for your pace! We already making plans for Triple running and bringing Lewis over with him for 2015 Man Cup in November. Plenty of time! This is just the end of one chapter and start of another! Calendar Girl I plan on making Top Ten by year's end. Had I gotten the minimum 11 on Saturday would be 18th! So we can do it, Now I got another crew chief that's all! Haha. Sam Green, I love you man! Hang in there Sam and heal up quick. That dinner looks a far sight better than some of those I saw in my hospital stays.  They used to like to push the jello, I didn't see any jello on your plate... ;D  Looked like some turkey and dressing and that is often fairly good, but nothing tastes good while you are in the hospital.

The head wound is healing nicely and looks much better cleaned up without the stitches.  Bathing makes you feel so much better after being in the hospital for a bit. Even if they are giving you sponge baths or the like...

Chin up and may you have pleasant dreams and speedy recovery!

Update for Sam: spent the morning with Sam and took him some jammies, some cream for his scars, and shaving kit. Before I arrived this AM, they'd showered him up, so we popped him out of the hospital drapes and into proper attire for lounging. He seems to feel immediately better, just being cleaned up and freshened up.

Brought him so smoked chicken/pasta sale from home and the wife brewed him up some fresh peach sun tea. That seemed to go down pretty well. I'll admit I had to lie a bit by claiming there was bourbon in it, but whatever works... Got a raised eyebrow from the nurse, btw.

Before i could get him shaved up, physio came to work him over. I had to run off for a few hours, but made my way back late afternoon. He was much higher spirits, but was complaining a bit about his ribs being sore. Got him a pain pill, and then the phone began ringing with lots of worried folks calling. Bill included in that-

Still never got him shaved, but will do tomorrow. Big news today was, we finally tracked down his dentures! Had to hire a team of private investigators to sift thru two hospital wings, a mail room, 3 nurses stations, and 4 floors of patient rooms, but we found 'em. I'm hopeful that will stimulate him to eat more, as his appetite is still low.

I'll tell you from personal observation, the calls make a huge difference in his mood. If nothing more, he enjoys the company with those he knows and has history with. Current circumstances are still foggy for him, so easier for him to interact with longer term mates and friends.

He's pretty wiped by 7:00PM, and tends to go a bit wonky as the pain mess begin to take hold, and fatigue. So mid morning, until late afternoon are very good times to reach him and get the "real Sam" on the other line.

Cheers-

Mostly I'm just translating his "English" for the nurses  ;) it's also funny as he and I will be mid conversation about his race team or something about Warrington, and a nurse will pop in, ask a question of him, and he'll carry on answering her with facts about our thread. The looks I get from the nurses is priceless!

I have to tell each of them, he has 2 priorities; Mates and Racing. And he prefers to discuss each of those topics over beer.

But to respond directly to your post, Brent, it truly is I, that am grateful. He's a special person, and I'll sorely miss him when he's discharged and whisked home. I'm fortunate to be close by, have some open time, and get the chance to spend many humor filled hours with a new friend. Learning a thing or two about going fast as well  ;)
