Honda mounted those engines sideways, converted to chain and ran them on the dirt tracks against XR750's. I think it was Mike Kidd who won the championship one year with that set up. They later went to the RS series and Bubba Shobert won a lot of races. I think I have my facts right but it was a long time ago

Mike, I think maybe that was a different series motor than the CX that already had the cylinders fore and aft, but also had shaft drive, like the VT500?

Mike is correct. Honda ran the CX mounted sideways with a chain drive on their flat trackers for a number of years. Pretty damn competitive at that.

I think it was an RS750. .. Not sure if it had pushrods ? M3. May have had one ..

Ns 750 D was a bored stroked cx 500 based motor.
 82 was one year they ran..

OK, I did some searching: the NS750 was derived from the CX and run in '81 & '82, but only won one national race. The RS750 was a purpose-built race bike with air-cooling, overhead cam, and 4 valves per cylinder, and was a winner on the track.

Scottly I checked the DLRA stats, this bloke ran 117mph in 2013.
Apart from what we see I dont know anything about his engine mods, his chain drive is what caught my attention !

I think given a lot of CB 750 are running around 120 lately  117mph  seems pretty good for an old road pussycat 500 with pushrods.
