Need Help Identifying This Trunk And Seat
« on: July 11, 2014, 08:07:55 AM »
I picked up a set of old Bates bags I'm resurrecting and the PO threw in an old seat and trunk with the deal. They came off an 82 GL1100. I'm trying to identify the manufacturer and year of the seat and trunk. Tried asking around the GoldwingOwners forum but I'm not getting any help. Seat has an identifying mark on the pan - 50•8•19. The trunk has no identifying marks and has been painted. Any thoughts? Thanks for looking.

Those old king/queen seats are virtually impossible to identify. Lots of companies made them, andin the end it really doesn't matter. Even if you could determine it was by a well know, still existing company like Corbin it wouldn't make it any more desirable or valuable. Those seats, while very comfortable just don't have any value. Most people who decide they don't want them just end up giving or throwing them away.

Similarly I don't think the bags have any particular value regardless of who made them. When I sold my '77 GL last year the buyer promptly removed the Bates bags/trunk, Vetter, and freshly recovered K/Q seat then sold the bike for $1,100 more than he paid me (although he had a couple hundred bucks invested in the replacement stock seat). He offered to give me the whole setup back for free if I would just come pick it up.

Ha ha, that bug avator thing had me going, I actually touched my computer screen to see if it was real!

+1 on what Danny said, those seats and top boxes are fantastic for long rides, but a lot of folks think they detract from the look. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
