MAD MAX: FURY ROAD! ANY FANS ?
« on: July 28, 2014, 07:00:32 AM »
The new Mad Max will be hitting theaters soon. Here is the trailer. Lots of action! The movie director wanted a long chase scene which is the majority of the movie.

This movie looks fantastic!  I cannot wait to see it.  I am a longtime fan of Mad Max and even rock a pair of the Alpinestars Hi-Point boots that Goose wore in the original  ;D

I am stoked about this as I am a big Mad Max fan yet I admit I  still have the fear of repeating Thunderdome.

By the way Goose is the the best motorcycle riding movie character of all time in my book. I even sculpted his statue for fun once.

I don't like remakes, they are rarely good movies.  Like Total Recall, anybody seen that?

This is not a remake.  This is a continuation of the overall story.

From http://madmax.wikia.com/wiki/Mad_Max:_Fury_Road
Mad Max: Fury Road takes place shortly after Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. It follows the further adventures of Max Rockatansky.

According to George Miller: "Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived."

A source from Badassdigest, who has seen an early cut of the movie, claims that the majority of the story features one giant chase sequence (or Road war in the Mad Max lore)."

This may not be a remake, but it looks like a re-imagining of Road Warrior (Mad Max II). While I do think Mad Max II is easily the best of the series, I have a special soft spot for the first Mad Max, which we all probably do. The first film was all about bikes and machines, period. The second film was all about action siege.

So going back to what I said, this looks like Mad Max II. His car blows up right away (too bad), he joins a clan, and the film turns into a massive action-packed siege.

I could be wrong, but I wish they went back to their roots and started with more of a Mad Max 1 story. Show me some cool bikes and take the story easy and slow. Get me acquainted with Mad Max, his family, and the environment first. Show me some nasty biker gangs. Show me the sound of their awesome Kawasaki KZs. Show me Mad Max's car, in depth.

But nope, it looks like they skipped all past that.

From what I've seen, less about bikes and machines and more about action, just like the second.

going by the trailer it kinda loses its appeal with the American accents?no offence to anyone but what started out as an aussie based series of films with low budget has now been turned into a super sized same as all the other rubbish action films?with actors trying too hard.

It's the truth so no offense taken. It seems like when ever the Brits or on this case the Aussies come up with a clever show a high budget American production company sticks it's nose in and screws it all up. Another potential problem is that whenever they take a story line and keep milking it over and over again it ends up turning into an over budgeted flop. Hopefully that's not the case with this new Mad Max.

Yeah, that's my hope as well. But an over-the-top Hollywood CGI extravaganza is what I'm actually expecting.

Well, to the film's defense, Road Warrior certainly wasn't as "pure" as the first one. Seems more Americanized to me even though it's arguably the best one! It's a kick-in-the-pants to watch for SURE! But less about machines, more about siege.

I wouldn't necessary dismiss it quite yet. The trailer does look convincing. Don't get me wrong; remakes suck 99% of the time. The only remakes off the top of my head that I was surprised with was Robocop and The Hills Have Eyes. That's IT! And Robocop was actually….good! I couldn't believe it...

My expectations are simply that this is going to be a more over-the-top version of Mad Max 2. I'm not expecting any of the awesome originality of the original Road Warrior film. I'm not expecting ANY of the awesomeness of the first film (Mad Max). I may just be pleasantly surprised like I was with Robocop!

Although I'm looking forward to seeing this one, definitely agree with you about wanting to see something along the lines of the first Mad Max movie.  Yeah it was low budget, and the story definitely needed some more work...but what they accomplished with what they had was really cool looking.  I'd like to see more of that car, before he had to rig it with oversized gas tanks, etc.  It sucks he had to smash it up in "The Road Warrior".

I will bring this back to life. I saw the movie on Thursday. I was #$%* and giggles the entire movie. If you want action, this is the movie. Non stop action. Freaking awesome to the point you questioned whether it was CGI effects. From what I read most was actual people doing stunts as well as the driving. I won't go into detail because I do not want to ruin the movie but this is by far the best action movie ever made. ACTION, the story was alright but the action scenes make the movie a great one.

I saw it three times.  It was like they were trying to make up for Thunderdome.  Reminded me a lot of the last chase scene in The Road Warrior.  I liked the simple ending too.  I thought this movie took Mad Max back to the roots.  I hope they will make more Mad Max movies.

What is Mad Max without Mad Mel?

He's still mad just not Max! :)

Gotta agree with the no-likey remakes especially of late. All CGI and no talent, direction, or writing.

I guess I'm he only one that actually liked Thunderdome.  :o Tina Turner was awesome and Master Blaster was a great character(s). Just my $0.02

Duanob,

Have you actually seen the new Mad Max Fury Road movie???  I'm not championing the movie, but you could not be more inaccurate.  It was definitely not ALL CGI.  In fact, the majority of the action sequences were real, and not virtual.  The movie was directed and written by George Miller -- who wrote and directed the prior 3 films.  No talent?  Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron are hardly untalented.  FYI- the villain is portrayed by the same actor who played the Toecutter in the original Mad Max.

Oh and yeah, Thunderdome blew ass cheese.   ;)

A salute you for your commitment! My all time favorite is The Road Warrior.  Yes, I said it.  Mad Max was better for motorcycles -- who can forget Goose and the Toecutter gang -- but the production was so much better on TRW, as well as the villians Wez and Lorg Humongous.  The blown supercharged V8 interceptor kicked ass in both.

I liked TD myself, and Tina was awesome indeed. Her final line to Max and exit was great. TD wasn't as good as Road Warrior (what is?) but still entertaining. None of it bears up well if you think about it much, but so what? It is fun to watch.

I got nothing against Tina or MasterBlaster or the little dude who rode on top Master Blaster.  They were all awesome.  I just missed the barbaric marauders of the Lord Humongous and the Nightrider/Toecutter gang that made Max a Road Warrior with motorcycles and gnarly death-vehicles and not a guy walking across the desert.
