Rechecked the valve adjustments, they seemed to be opened and closed when they should be and spacing seems right. Also tried switching the wires with no change. Does this mean it's time to start tearing the motor apart? Any other ideas?

If what you have checked "checks out" and doesn't alter the problem, then you must have the cam off by 90*. Do you remember when installing it, on the end there's a notched line, what direction was it in ting with #1 @ TDC?

From what I recall the notch was facing the front of the engine, which I believe is right. Is there a way to confirm that without taking the cam cover off?

Only way would be to confirm TDC on #1 piston and then measure the valve clearances. But a visual inspection requires the cover to come off.

Hey guys, it's been a while. I'm back on this project and took the cam cover off to check that I had everything right and I believe I do. Here are some pics...anyone see anything wrong? Piston 1 is all the way up as shown with the screwdriver, the timing it on t 1-4, and the notch in the cam is facing toward the front of the bike. Any suggestions? I'm not a mechanic so I really don't know where to go from here. There is a video in this thread of the symptom I have.

Thanks everyone!
