I am with you, I scored 4 pointer on my bike few years ago.

You should have got 10 points for that mate, thats quite a good shot... ;D

It was over before I realized what is happening.  More luck than anything, hit him with right knee and the tank and the headlight took most of the impact.

But motorcycle cop got killed riding through Manassas battlefield not that long ago, the deer herd there is extensive.

Azure:  I believe it means when you hit the road, your chance in hitting the deer is 1 in 624, just like lottery is 1 in 30 Mega or so.  But it still does not mean that it has to happen once in 624 rides, it is still random.  Of course the chance is higher if you drill it down and drive in areas known for deer crossing or around sun set or in the end of October when they are pussy crazy.

Where my property is in central Queensland the Roos are just as dangerous, you would be surprised at just how big and strong the bloody things are... They make a mess of cars so i would hate to hit one on a bike.... :o

Can't imagine hittin a 'roo!      My biggest concern was hitting cattle, Texas is an open range state, very common to see cows on the side roads when riding out in the country.

In 20+ seasons of hunting deer I never once saw deer pick me out from a distance and react to me, not even to a group of us forming up to drive deer.  They will react when you get within 100 yards or so, especially if you are moving and they often will circle to put you up wind so they can keep track of you.

As a driver in group hunt the deer often stayed 50 to 100 yards in front of us, my uncle taught us to insure we were shooting away from the drivers because they would be close to the deer, something  Dick Cheney's uncle forgot to teach him...

Some of the big male red roos are over 7 feet tall and are built like body builders...no sh1t...  Nearly hit a cow on a 754 once, that was a close call... :o

I'd rather hunt with Dick Cheney than ever ride with Ted Kennedy.

I guess the thing I find disgusting about both of them is neither had/has the courage to own their mistakes.

I would not associate with either of them,  Jackasses both.

Butthoonose?

Back to deer.  I guess my point is they are currently unable to properly identify vehicles as killers they cannot outrun. That their best defense against a vehicle is stealth, not flight, because they lack the speed to evade.  The reason they hang out along our roads is they find good eating in the grasses and young trees we promote along the highways. This is a conflict to their instincts.

Contrast the deers behavior with that of a buzzard savaging the deer's carcass, the bird gets out of the way, the deer assumes it is fast enough to escape.  Maybe this is because it cannot properly see where as the Buzzard can see a squirrel in the road fro a mile away.

Recently the state of Georgia received a letter from a citizen who was complaining that the state had put a deer crossing close to her house and she wanted to know why it was not put in a more rural location. Apparently the State had put up new warning signs for a deer crossing.

Yes, how dare that damned state 'place a deer crossing' sign near her house?!?!?  ;D

Now you just go and tell those darned deer to cross the road elsewhere!!
