Grounding collar, rear tail light, cb750k5
« on: August 14, 2014, 11:28:33 am »
Mine came loose again due to vibration, so no taillight or brake light. What is supposed to hold that collar onto the tube that the bulb sits in?

Parts fisch doesn't show the collar as a separate part, or even show it in the pic of the entire taillight assy. I have one in front of me now, and from what little I can actually see, its maybe crimped on somehow. It sure is tight as well. I tried to pry it, twist, and pull in every direction, and couldn't get it to budge. Tried to "slide" it
upward, thought it was maybe like a clip on type thing, but that didn't work either.
Stumped as well ??? ??? Is it supposed to just snap on, and the collar is lose for
whatever reason?

Thanks for looking!

As far as I can tell, the parts are assembled and the collar is then crimped on. If so, poor design.

I removed the bulb and the spring loaded contacts, placed the reflector upside down onto a deep socket, and hammered the collar onto the metal tube. Not sure that it will hold.

There's always the soldering iron, eh? As long as you find a way of isolating everything from the associated rubber bits. Probly easier just to pick one up cheap somewhere I'd think tho.

Eh?     ;D

Good idea. I'll try soldering.
