1980 750 Carbs on a 72 Motor
« on: September 26, 2006, 04:01:54 pm »
I have a 72 motor in my chopper frame, clearance and cabling is not an issue, will the carbs fit my intake boots? and is this a good idea, or a really stupid one?

What exactly is the reason newer CV carbs couldn't work an old sohc?

i imagine that they could be made to work, but why? you may have to futz with the rubbers (or make your own from radiator hose), as i am pretty sure that the intake spacing is incorrect... it is a fact that DOHC exhausts are not interchangeable with SOHC for this very reason...

Spacing is diff.   At least when the 650 changed it did.

in general try to avoid the DOHC cb750/900/1100 carbs whenever possible. They aren't even good on the bikes they were designed for (CR flatslides are popular replacement).

As a general rule constant velocity carbs don't give good throttle response and are difficult to tune on engines they were not designed for.
