CB500 K1 rear fender bolts
« on: September 03, 2014, 03:17:31 PM »
So through some unfortunate event while having my rear fender powder coated, I seemed to have misplaced the bolts for the sides of the rear fender. I couldn't find anything online about the size other than it being an 8mm bolt, so I assumed the pitch was 1.25. However once I bought bolts of that size, they didn't seem to thread right. I don't see any powder coating that seeped into the threads, and the pitch is certainly not smaller than 1.25. Can anyone confirm that the bolt pitch for these is 1.50? It seems like an odd pitch to use, so I was curious if anyone could confirm this off the top of their head.

Thanks

Thank you for the link, but I was trying not to buy them online. I found the same thing on bikebandit but it still doesn't mention the pitch. My bike never had the rear hoop when I bought it, so the bolts are a bit unnecessarily long if I buy the stock ones online.

The 6mm pitch is always 1.0 on these bikes and I've yet to encounter an 8mm that isn't 1.25. The 10mms are often fine pitch, so you do have to be careful there.

Do you need the 8x80s? Or shorter?

Shorter. I bought 8mm bolts with a 1.25 pitch yesterday yet it seems to stop threading properly not long after it starts. I'll try again, but I didn't want to wreck the threading on the fender.

Do oh you have some decent metric taps? If so, hose down the fender threads first with WD. Then, tap it. 1/2 turn in, 1/4 turn out. Repeat. Use some WD while tapping to help rinse the cuttings. Then, use a little AntiSieze lube on the bolt and she should turn straight in.
