400/4 F1 Cafe Racer Project - New Exhaust System

Mizuno Motor (copycat Yoshi) Short Exhaust System now fitted to my '77 CB400/4, replacing a 1970s Yoshimura 'Long' system.






Removed Yoshi Long system

Very nice.  I love the 400/4 F and what you've done with it.  Reminds me of the old Lotus racing colors - except not as mustardy a yellow.

One day I want to cafe a Triton in Lotus racing colors.

I like the smooth bend Yosh replica 4-1 you just installed.  Not so sure about the saw blade brake rotor.

Actually, the bike is painted in authentic Team Lotus Formula 1 racing colours from 1966/67, as raced by the great Jim Clark.  I obtained the correct paint codes.

I'm with you, that new pipe looks much better on that bike. Some info on the front rotor?

Home modified.  I can't say it improves brake performance by much, but is certainly a talking point.  A have a stock disc to replace it should I feel the need.

Adventurous! I would almost think it would degrade braking since less surface area is in constant contact with the pads. I was going to ask, do you find it chirping or shuddering under heavy pressure?

Either way, kudos for a clever "talking point"  ;)

I would think the rotor might go through pads faster than slotted discs (cheese grater effect).  That is a bit more extreme than petal/wave rotors.  Cal brings up a good question/concern about chatter/shuddering.  Of course, it may work just fine.  Let us know.

No chirping or juddering. The brake feels normal.   Pad wear may be reduced, only time will tell.
