A guy was returned here a few weeks ago, and has since made a full recovery. He was known to be infected though, and precautions were taken all the way through. Here's hoping this fella has the same outcome, and those he has had contact with check out ok too.

I heard they were watching about 100 people he had contact with and so far no symptoms. Another guy in Hawaii they suspected of having it turned out negative.

Now they say a nurse in Spain has contracted.

This sucks  :-\
Its going to first hit all those third-world countries with little or no border control, citizens who distrust the government, corruption, poor healthcare systems, etc.
Now, look to our neighbor to the south.  How much control do we have over THAT border nowadays?   ::)
TSA should be asking ANYONE, travelling inbound from ANY country if they've been sick, or in contact with anyone sick.
They have to be our first line of defense, and they are failing.

British Airways and Air France, among others have suspended flights to dangerous areas, but not the USA.

the drug companies have never put much effort into finding a cure for this disease  , as it has only been poor africans getting it the profits would be low .
now the west is panicking expect to see some faster action , then they can get back to the real important business of a cure for hair loss and fatness .

My son got me playing the PLAGUE INC game app a few months before the world took notice of the current outbreak.
The objective? Infect and kill everyone before the CDC and WHO find, manufacture and distribute a cure.
You start the game by naming a bacteria.  I named mine Poo.   Days are seconds.
Pretty soon, there was a poo outbreak across the globe!
Start it in any contry in the world.  You get points for every person you infect, and every person they infect.  The points can be used to increase transmission rates and methods, slow cure rates, genetic change upgrades and specific antibiotic resistances.
One cough on a plane full of people, or bad drinking water on a ship going from continent to continent are great transmission methods.  Just get one infected person in before International ports are close, and you're on your way to world extinction!

The fact that we are bringing infected people here is crazy scary.

They are not infected, they are immunity challenged.

Yeah it wouldn't take much to have a major problem, I'm lucky in that I'm reasonably isolated and if needed I could avoid contact with people but it shouldn't be needed in the 21st century.

Its only passed on by direct contact so i wouldn't worry too much, its only a problem in Africa because people are suspicious and are continuing to have contact with their families, they want the bodies to bury as well which are still infectious....

Well the first nurse in TX was part of the care team to the man (Thomas Duncan from Liberia). She was wearing protective gear and they have not divulged yet how she contracted it.

Now, a second nurse from the same hospital (no word on her role in treating Duncan) has contracted it. AND, she flew on a commercial airline the day before she was admitted.

I watched a serious discussion on this subject yesterday and the general consensus was that they were infected while taking off the bio hazard suits, they simply touched the outside of the suits and infected themselves. I'm not suggesting complacency what so ever, just "proper" bio hazard protocols need to be in place, the govt should have experts in this field at what ever hospital has a suspected patient ASAP and they should be in control of ALL protocols...
