Ever seen or heard of this?
« on: October 09, 2014, 07:09:16 AM »
I got this pic from a post in one of facebook's motorcycle groups.
The only information I could find is the caption underneath. Not much mentioned about the pic in the discussion, which was primarily HD.
Anybody know anything about it? I'm trying to be open minded, but find it hard to believe that HD came up with the idea first.   EDIT: I guess anything's possible tho :)  as usual, jmo.
Thoughts?

I had read a rumor that HD developed a transverse mounted  inline 4 prior to when the cb750 appeared in 69 but never made it to production because the powers that be at HD didn't think it would sell. I bet they kicked themselves big time for that misjudgement assuming the rumor was true. I also read that some time later on maybe not all that long ago that HD developed a V4 as well but that got tossed too because Willie G didn't like it because it didn't sound like an HD. I find that amusing because the so called HD's in NHRA pro stock motorcycle sure don't sound like any HD I hear on the street either. Do the HD pro stock V twins even use a 270 deg crank?

Yes, I knew about it. There was an article I read two years or so ago that described the development of the inline 4 and reasons why it was scraped.

Think HD was working with the Italians during that period aka the 350 Sprint etc.
