Carburettor Restoration
« on: October 11, 2014, 11:58:50 AM »
Hi Guys,

I thought I would share the outcome of my carburettor restoration as some of you guys helped with the process.

The first stage was removing each individual carburettor and completely stripping them down, include the choke leaver. All the parts were then cleaned using various techniques (ultra-sonic, soda blasting and degreasers). The carburettor caps and bowl covers were then polished to a mirror finish.

The carbs were then assembled, minus the choke leaver as I wanted to send these off for re-plating.

The throttle body was then dis-assembled, this was a little tricky as the shaft was effectively pinned to the aluminium carb holder. I drilled out the pin and removed the shaft.

All the parts I wanted re-plating were then sent off to a trusted company. While this was happening I set about making a new pin on a lathe but this time I made it longer so it protruded the aluminium carb holder, this meant I could grab hold of it and remove it if needed.

Once the parts came  back from electroplating I assembled the throttle body with new stainless steel 316 fasteners.

The carb bodies could now be fixed to the throttle body assembly. The carbs were then bench synchronised and the two set screws adjusted to the appropriate setting.

If anyone has any questions please ask and I will try to help :).
